Hi Everyone,

After three weeks of testing the release candidate (1.0-RC was released on April 22, 2016), we are pleased to announce the release of BigBlueButton 1.0.

As with each release, stability is our main goal (followed by usability and then features).   This release saw over *six* months of beta testing (1.0-beta was released on October 15, 2015).

This beta testing enabled us to stress the client and server under heavy loads for months and find those areas that needed improvement (many thanks to everyone who reported issues during the beta testing).

The stability was important to our community as well: we see an increasing number of companies building products and services upon BigBlueButton.

Features are important too.  This release provides

  - Polling Module
  - Emote Icons
  - Improved Video Dock
  - Puffin Browser Support
  - Auto Reconnect

For usability, we designed the polling module to detect slides that have multiple choice answers and provide the instructor a single button to initiate a poll.  You can see the details of all new features at

Accessibility is very important to us (and our target market) as well.  As with each release, we engaged an external company to review BigBlueButton and give an opinion on its support for accessibility.  You can view the accessibility statement for 1.0 release here

We've also updated the documentation at

so it now references BigBlueButton 1.0 as the default install, overview, architecture, API, and developer instructions.

Some of us have been working on BigBlueButton for over seven years now.  It's a journey, not a destination.  And right now it feels great to pause for a moment and share the feeling of delivering our best release to date.

Thanks to everyone in the community that helped us make it so.

Regards,... Fred

Thanks Avecedo for the feedback.

We notice you've been posting in our forums since 2009 ... you've seen a lot of evolution of BigBlueButton over the years :-).

Regards,... Fred
