The RAID rebuild is at 98% ... but there's more to do. I *hope* to
get this done before I run out of energy!

Seriously though, be careful and take care of yourself.  Most of the BGG users have gone to bed, so don't kill yourself trying to get this done fast.  Take your time, take some rests, and don't stress out.  You'll make less mistakes that way and be healthier.  If there's a BGG running in eight hours, most of us will be very happy.  Take your time and thank you for your efforts.

Your efforts are certainly appreciated, Aldie! So are the efforts of all the administration of BGG/RPGG/VGG/Team Geekdo!

Look forward to it coming up again - sorry it's turned out to be such a taxing job this time round!

But no rush, I'll be at bordspelmania.eu. BGG will be back soon enough. Take your time!

You just woke up, you can wait some more :P

It's been down for 12 1/2 hours so far... for which I've been awake for about 10 hours anticipating it coming online *laughs*

Good things come to those that wait - and BGG most certainly is a good thing!

Sheesh, you realise the internet crosses time an date lines ae? ;)
and geeks have super human endurance and stamina when it comes to all
geek related activities, its like a super power. Athough it does sound
like he's starting to fade...his nemesis may be on hand, be vigilant
folks; evil takes many guises.

Seconded. My wife enjoys it when our internet is down, and BGG being down is like our internet is down. Except, yucata.de is up... :D

I would give you THUMB here if I would find one ...
Well, after vacuuming, I just set up Age of Empires III. But the other guys will arrive at 2 PM earliest. So I still have 3 hours to beat. Too short for a solitaire cosim!

Might not be any thumbs or GG tipping but the sentiment is more than sufficient :)

You better work out something quick-smart though to avoid the housework - significant others are able to sense nothing-to-do-ness from 1000 yards away and are constantly running a plethora of ideas to help cure it!

5.40am EST, and I am STILL up working. I WIN! I WIN!

p.s. after these insane nights of working, a little bit of BGG time to
chill out before bed is just the best... oh, how I miss that now!

You know the part that I hate about this whole thing is that we can't
get any kinda updates. At least on the MMOs that I have played the
tech guys come out and say, sorry guys ran into trouble eta 4 hours,
or eta 3 hours. For all we know aldie and everyone is in bed and any
of us who are waiting are just S.O.L.

I hated that come donation time I couldn't donate a bigger chunk of
money to help out, I (like all of us) really really love my BGG. But
tonight it certainly feels like the "powers that be" at BGG don't
really have time to bother with a 5 minute update every hour or two to
let us know whats going on.

Like has already been stated there was an update - it's the very first post of this thread...

The difference though is it's direct contact from one of the actual people soing the physical, and necessary, work. It's already been sated by Aldie and others that they in no way planned the downtime to be so long & have been working all hours through all sorts of unforseeable problems.

A little patience can go a long way... BGG doesn't have the budget to have 100 hands on deck to do server maintenance & offer the forums at no obligated cost. I can assure that the admins are going above & beyond to get the site back online...

I think you need to remember that your MMO's are probably larger
companies. The 'tech' guys you are referring to are rarely the CEO of
the company as is the case here. The tech team isn't the whole
company, again, pretty much the case here. It might help if you think
of it this way also. You wouldn't expect your Ford Focus to have the
same performance and power of a Formula 1 racing car. Try not to
expect BGG to act like EA Sports. CBS Studios (Star Trek Online) or
Bethesda, etc.

Keeping these things in mind will perhaps give you peace of mind when
frustrated with downtime for smaller operations. I worked for over 20
years in IT at IBM....it isn't all milk and honey running an IT
infrastructure :)

Hope this helps.

Maybe this is their way of revealing the new GUI. Maybe it'll be down
all day Saturday only to resurrect on Sunday with the new interface.

I can't help but be suspicious this is happening around April 1st.
After last year, I don't trust these guys! ;p)

Really? When BGG requires that I "donate" as much per month as World
of Warcraft does, then I will require buxom chinese women wearing
bustiers and garters to hand-deliver updates every fifteen minutes!
Until then, I will appreciate how robust, useful, and reliable BGG is
and offer my withdrawal symptoms up to Aldie and the rest as simply a
sign of my appreciation for what they have created.
