I just installed the 3.2.19-x13 kernel on an SD card with the help of Robert Nelson's
excellent instructions.  This is a BeagleBoard C5 (not XM).  Now, I see that cron
runs at 95% CPU utilization for 3 minutes at a time, rests for a minute or so and
starts again.  I don't see any obvious things wrong with the /etc/cron.xx files.
I'm not sure I really need any cron jobs running on this system, anyway.

I installed emacs, and I get a 10 minute delay, then this message :
(emacs:2522): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
//bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally without any error message
GConf Error: No D-BUS daemon running

Emacs runs OK after that.

I installed dbus, but no difference.

Thanks for any advice,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Which distribution is this? (lsb_release -a)... Normally with a fresh
install, cron should be pretty idle

Based on google, it looked to be a common error with Ubuntu 11.10..
But if it's a recent distribution, i'd report the error upstream..

Well, when I installed the necessary packages, things seemed to settle down.
I still don't understand the cron thing, but it went away.  And, I thought installing
dbus installed dbus-x11, but it apparently did not.  explicitly installing dbus-x11
made emacs work normally, and may have been what fixed cron, too.

So, this system is now running the application.  Thanks much for the help!

Is 3.2.19-x13 a recent distribution?

Nope, that just a kernel version, that I'm currently pushing out that
kernel to 12 distributions... But since you fixed it, the initial
question doesn't matter anymore.. ;)
