Good { morning, afternoon, evening },
The 10.5 public beta's off to a hot start -- thanks to everyone
who's taken the time to try it out and let us know how it's
working, for better or for worse. :-)
A new build is available, with an assortment of fixes for things
that turned up in the previous beta release. (For more
information about the previous release, please see the post at
<
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/bbedit/Q3qvLdEUZuY/0snk6W1Uq3AJ>.)
Most of these correspond to fixes and changes to work in
progress; but as always there are also fixes for bugs in what's
currently in general release.
Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions. If
this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the public
release versions is your best course of action. Nobody will be
offended if you choose to do so; you're under no obligation to
install and use anything but a public release. :-)
Following is a summary of the changes in the software since the
previous build. The change notes are organized into additions,
changes, and fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with
case numbers. So if you recognize a number corresponding to a
support case that was opened for you, you can now verify that
it's been fixed correctly. Please take the time to review the
changes before using the new build -- there are a lot of them,
and it'll be worth your time.
One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <
sup...@barebones.com> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.

version 10.5 (3219) (10/08/2012)
*** The system requirements for BBEdit have changed with version 10.
Mac OS X 10.6 is now required (10.6.8 or later recommended).
*** BBEdit 10.5 contains extensive internal rework; the primary goal
is to achieve proper appearance on Macs with the high-resolution
"Retina" displays, but the opportunity was also taken to remove
unnecessary code, and to effect various cosmetic and usability
improvements. There will be some drawing glitches and
fit-and-finish issues; please report anything that you run into
that falls into that category (as well as any other
functional bugs
that you may encounter in new or changed features).
Additions
---------
* [228989] The popup menu next to the "href" attribute in the
Markup panel (when editing anchors and certain other tags) now
includes internal anchors for eligible destination files. Anchors
in the document you're editing are available at the top
level of
the menu; anchors for other files listed on the menu are in a
submenu attached to each file.
Changes
-------
* Counterpart discovery (for "Open Counterpart" and the
Counterparts navigation bar item) can now use an open project
document to locate eligible files.
Fixes
-----
* [250714, 251698] Fixed crash which would occur when quitting
with a project window open, *and* a document with unsaved changes
was open (not in the project window) *and* "Restore unsaved
changes" was turned off in the Application preferences.
* When running a shell process (for `#!` scripts and other
purposes), we take a moment to grab the login environment
and use
that to set up the shell environment for the script being run.
This should (among other things) ensure that $PATH and other
important environment variables are set correctly when running
Unix scripts and commands from within the application.
* [232478] Fixed bug in which window split options were
inappropriately mirrored into other windows (e.g. results
or disk
browsers).
* [251728] Fixed bug in which in-document token completion didn't
work for Fortran-9x documents.
* [243835] Fixed bug in which site-defined environment variables
were not set for `#bbinclude` Unix scripts when they should have
been, and were instead passed through as "`undefined`".
* [NFR] [251460] Adjusted the clipboard export to make sure that
we provide a BOM unconditionally when providing "UTF-16 in
external format" text, rather than hoping the system
decides to
do it for us. Contrariwise, adjusted the Clipboard import to
handle cases when an external provider lied about providing
a BOM.
* [NFR] [251642] If the application is in the background when the
progress dialog wants to come up, wait until it's in the
foreground. This should work around the system's tendency to
bounce the application's icon in the dock when doing things like
reopening remote files at startup.
- [NFR] [250797] Moved the window zooming code for navigation
windows up to the base class, and improved text measurement to
better fit display widths.
* [NFR] [251561] Fixed difficult-to-reproduce crash in the HTML
markup tools (including the syntax check and link validator),
caused by a lurking eldritch horror from before the time of men.
* [NFR] [251747] Wordsmithed notification strings for better
appearance when using Notification Center.
* [NFR] [251774] Fixed a pair of bugs that interfered with
correctly interpreting svn 1.7 status reports.
* [NFR] Fixed a class of drawing glitches that would occur when
resizing windows, which left remnants of controls (buttons,
scrollbars, etc) behind.
* [NFR] [251875] When choosing an image from the popup menu in the
markup panel, the panel is now updated with correct dimensions.
- [NFR] Changes to better track which document/view is going away.
Should address crashes in [251764]
- [NFR] Set a minimum width on the Windows floater, to prevent
people from resizing it so narrow that the close widgets are
hidden. [251567]
* [NFR] Fixed crash when running Unix `#bbinclude` scripts which
specified arguments to the script in the `#bbinclude` line.
