Error -61 when trying to upload a file to an ftp Server

People,
When trying to upload an html file to my ftp server, I get the
following error message:
This operation coudn't be completed, because an error occured:
an attempt to write to this volume failed (MacOS error code: -61)
However, I'm perfectly capable of uploading using GoLive, but GoLive
is a dog to open and I would much prefer to use BBEdit.
Any ideas?
