BigShotHD camera programming

Anybody have any experience programming (AMX) control of BigShotHD cameras. Their specs says it is visca and the code looks like visca, so it should be simple. Just like every other camera I've programmed. Not so. I mostly interested it in recalling presets. When I send it commands, it responds with code (not what is expected) and you can hear motor sounds like maybe focus. The camera head does not move - no pan or tilt. 

My only thought is that we only ran 3 wire serial cable, TX, RX, ground. Not five wire that also includes DTR and DSR. Like the wire diagrams show. I've never run 5 wire. Has anyone found running 5 wire serial necessary?

I'm beating my head against a wall on this one so any help would be appreciated.
