I have a customer who needs the following:
  1. Record from two HD video cameras, simultaneously, each at full 1080p.
  2. Watch the recording from both cameras simultaneously, each in full 1080p, and roughly synchronized in time.
  3. Do it without needing a computer or a technician present (both recording and review).
  4. Recording sessions will last up to 4 hours.
I’ve looked at the Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio as a possibility. There is a command line interface so we could send a simultaneous playback command to both decks, and presumably pause, FF, etc (I haven’t looked at the API yet). Doubtless there are other solutions.

If you done anything like this, your suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Harry

I would Recommend using 2 Ki-Pro Rack recorders and slave them.  To see more than one camera at the same time you could use a low cost switchers Ross has some great products.  Or you could just take the monitor outs from the Ki-Pros.  This idea may be overkill for what you want but I think it would work.

We recently installed a Crestron Capture HD system for a video game lab.  Its really easy to use, records to a USB key, SD card or the a server if you use room view fusion.

There are also multiple stream capture devices such as the Wirecast as well as NCast or Cattura which will capture multiple streams simultaneously as well.

Drew- have you been to our studios?

Because that exactly how we have it and its bullet proof. I am installing a Ross Crossover 12 right now at our football stadium to feed the video wall, campus cable tv and to stream. We have a JVC camera in studio configuration (game camera) and a Canon PTZ Robot (controlled from the Ross) for crowd.

I use the AJA’s for master record, sending it HD SDI program w/audio from the Ross. Then take the HD SDI output to feed the fiber path for the CATV plant, and the analog out to feed the MediaSite encoder. Works great and very reliable.

Thomas,

Our department recently tried out a new Sony Product that might help you.  Its an image Multiplexer that allows up to 4 images integrated into 1 output.  The box has a range of flavors of video inputs.  In theory, you could use this between your 2 cameras and your capture / recording device.  I've attached the instruction manual and product cut sheets for you to this email.

Best,

Thanks for the suggestions, all.

I can’t get to Aja’s web site. Anybody else having trouble with that?

Hmm. Seems to be on our cyber-security block list. I’ve submitted a ticket to the Men In Black here.

Thanks,
Harry
