Dear discussion group members,

I’ve seen a few posts in this forum recently about statistics and data analysis. These are topics that are often brought up by members of our community, but we don’t have many resources on our website (with the exception of Alan and Abiodun’s articles mentioned below!).

Would any of our experienced members on here be interested in writing blog posts on this topic? They could be about all kinds of stats, data analysis, data visualisation, data sharing etc., but pitched at an introductory level for young researchers.

Please let me know if you are interested in contributing!

Current blog articles:

Free data analysis using R – Alan Parker https://www.authoraid.info/en/news/details/1277/

How to choose the right statistical tests - Abiodun Egbetokun https://www.authoraid.info/en/news/details/1233/

Best wishes

Andy

Andy,
here are some topics that are quite general that I'd be happy to write on. It's hard to make good choices because the research interests here cover such a range of topics. Also the internet provides a huge range of resources, so I see little point in "reinventing the wheel". I've tried to think of problems that people might not know that they had.

Exploratory data analysis: what do you do if you haven't got a hypothesis yet?
Robust statistics: protecting your statistical analysis from non-ideal data
Uses and misuses of p, that key measure of statistical significance
Effect size: Finding factors with large effects could be more important than significance testing

Any preferences? All thoughts welcome.

Alan
