Dear Colleagues

Many requests that are made on this forum are from those who are seeking collaboration and mentorship. I also receive similar requests on my email address. However, I have noticed that many of these requests are vague, incomplete and do not give much information for the mentors and experts to decide if they should volunteer.

I would suggest that the colleagues who are seeking mentorship or looking for collaboration, consider the following points while sending a request

  1. Give a brief introduction. It should include your name, department, Institution, City, and Country. It would be nice if you can add a link to your official departmental profile, LinkedIn profile, or ORCID profile.
  2. Mention your research background. Are you a novice ( starter), mid-career with some experience, or an experienced researcher looking to expand globally? It would be nice here to have a link to your ResearchGate, Google Scholar, or any other academic website which displays your research interests and work.
  3. Be specific and explain what kind of guidance you are seeking. Simply mentioning " I am looking for mentors or collaboration" does not provide any useful information. You can explain that you are seeking mentorship for questionnaire development, understanding a particular research methodology, data analysis, writing manuscript, etc

I feel that this should be the minimum information needed in order for a professional to decide if he/she should collaborate or offer mentorship.

I hope that we see more of well-worded and appropriately written emails on this forum. This will help you in future as well .

Best Regards

Farooq

Many thanks Dr Farooq! This is very helpful, indeed I thought the requests didn't seem to be authentic, based on how they were being posted here.

Dear Dr. Rathore

Thank you very much for your brief

I feel worried also that we receive these requests the way they come. Meanwhile i remember that Authoraid is an online  mentoring platform where mentors and mentees can be matched. I also remember that mentees can identify mentors from their profiles which is why the platform was established in the first place.

Methinks the prospective mentees should use the appropriate channel rather than inundate personal emails the way they go about it. This is my candid opinion for those who really want to be mentored. It is after that stage that i think they can then reach out individually

Many Thanks

Dear members,

I would like to commend Dr. Rathore on his excellent suggestions for how to introduce yourself and provide important context when seeking collaborators and mentors.

We would recommend following this advice when seeking potential collaborators and mentors on this forum. You might also find these principles fruitful when contacting other members on our online mentoring and collaboration system: https://www.authoraid.info/en/mentoring/search/

Best wishes

Hi everybody,

There have been a few requests for collaboration on the forum recently, and I’d like to remind everybody of the advice that Dr. Farooq Rathore (see below) gave to us earlier in the year about being specific and providing some context to your requests.

Also, it would be great in general if everybody could include a short signature or name/institution details in your messages so we know more about you when we read your message.

Thanks everyone – have a great day!

Andy
