What happened to Noni? She is enormous on those ads for A Place To
Call Home. For a second I thought I was watching an ad for Mel Doyle
on Sunrise. I feel like burning all my old Play School VCR tapes.

The question needs to be asked as to why you are hoarding old tapes
containing images of young kiddies - are they part of your porn
collection?

ER, Noni was the ADULT host of Play School, not a kiddie. Why do ALL
your posts seem to be questions about children?

I'll take your evasive answer as an unequivocal "YES".

I know you're just being yourself, but old VHS tapes are actually a
real world problem for me. I have a box full of them. Two or three I
want to preserve for posterity, the rest are expendable. They aren't
properly labelled. I want to view them to identify the keepers and
discard the rest. I don't want to expend effort and money locating an
old VHS player and buying it. I should just discard the lot, but I
really would prefer to keep some. The box of VHS tapes continues to
take up precious space in my small home. I see no way out of the
problem.

Converting tapes to digital isn't as easy as it was a few years back,
because modern PVR's and DVD recorders don't have a/v analogue inputs

DVD is far from obsolete.
Pain in the arse with all the backups you need on HDD. And then they
change the interface and you have the same problem as that with a DVD.

Results from a $30 PVR and an old VCR look like the results produced by
a $30 PVR and an old VCR.

If you treasure them, get it done professionally and they can burn the
raw file onto a DVD so you can keep a digital copy anywhere you like.

I stopped backing up to DVD years ago as it got to be too much of a
chore as data sizes increased... so HDD for me at this stage.

I didn't say anything about a $30 pvr... my pvr cost about $800
(albeit a few years ago) and I have a few high quality VCRs stored
away. Better results than you may think... I converted on old tape I
was loaned to DVD, then later found I could buy an 'original' from WIN
Television. It was difficult to tell them apart, aside from a few
analogue artifacts from the old tape.

looks like you AKA blogger Keira James AKA online name Kinki-Jay will be
getting a visit from Charlie Jarratt :)

~~~~~~~~~~~
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/tv/noni-hazlehursts-son-charlie-jarratt-in-fracas-on-twitter/story-e6frexlr-1226631847663
THE son of actors Noni Hazlehurst and John Jarratt threatened to "rape" a
Twitter user on Sunday night after the woman referred to his mother as
obese.
Fledgling singer-songwriter Charlie Jarratt made the threats during the
blockbuster premiere of Channel 7's A Place To Call Home, a period drama set
in the 1950s and led by Hazlehurst that drew a whopping 1.76 million
viewers.
Jarratt was retaliating to an insulting tweet by would-be rugby league
blogger Keira James online name Kiki-Jay), who wrote words to the affect of:
When did Noni Hazlehurst become so obese?
The tweet was quickly deleted, but not before Jarrat hit back with a series
of responses, including one saying: "I will rape you."
In another Jarratt said he would "touch you (James) with (US singer) Chris
Brown's hands, though :)".
Some other replies were not suitable to be published.
Executive producer of Nine's The Footy Show Michael Sullivan, believed to be
a friend of James', wrote to Jarratt: "You understand that isn't funny in
the slightest. And if you're being genuine, dude, reevaluate your mindset."
Confidential has been told Hazlehurst was "beside herself" after being made
aware of the incident.
It's understood Jarratt has been "out of action" for a few years following a
serious motorcycle accident.
Hazlehurst yesterday said she was upset by the episode.
"I'm disappointed - as any parent would be," she said. "Twitter can at times
be a hurtful medium - particularly when used thoughtlessly. I understand the
comments have now been removed, and I hope we can learn from this and move
on."
Hazlehurst had two sons with John Jarratt, Charlie and William, during their
marriage, but now lives in Melbourne with her cameraman partner Ian Marden.
All you need is a video card in your PC with A/V input, and connect it
to a VCR's AV output and some video editing software. You can also get
USB ones..
Right, you have to BUY one. Hard to justify given the quality of most VCR
tapes compared to modern TV's. I already have everything I need to copy
tapes, and some tapes I'd like to copy, but only one VCR with crook heads
and one VCR that eats tapes. Can't justify buying a new VCR though :-) Will
try to borrow one some day perhaps and hope it doesn't eat tapes too. Common
when pinch rollers go hard and belts deteriorate with age.
You'll need to have a STB connected to it to do that soon
What's the point, as soon as he does that the heads will go, or the belts
and pinch roller will perish. Digital PVR's are pretty cheap now, or just
buy an STB that records to USB and forget the VCR.
Why would I do that when I said I "record Media Watch"?
I do that so I can watch it the following morning.
Anyway Media Watch airs at 9:20pm on Mondays, not 8.30pm.
Depends on where he lives. And many areas have been digital only for quite
some time already.
I'm amazed that anyone would still use a VCR in the era of sub $40 STB's
that do recording to USB. Stop wearing out the heads until you have at least
recorded everything you have on tape that you want to keep, to digital. And
by then you'd never go back to using one anyway.
A valid point about where you live.
I was only thinking of where I live!
I only use the VCR to record Media Watch.
The heads are OK atm.
The TV I was given by my family has a broken aerial
socket, and I do use a STB with it, but I found the STB
recorder function unsatisfactory, hence the VCR also
connected. The STB, however, is very stable unlike my
surplus of other STBs I have - they freeze occasionally.
Where I live, we don't have daylight saving, and we get to watch the
Sydney ABC which means we get all your programmes 1 hour in advance.
Since media watch goes from 9.20 to 9.30 your time, and the fact that
VCR's can't time shift, it isn't possible to watch the "recordings" of
media watch until it ends at 9.30 your time - which is 8.30 my time.
Are you clear now David?
duh! if he records from the STB, he records a digital transmission
rather than analogue from the tuner in the VCR, so he gets a much better
recording. It must suck being you!
Yes, but I did say I "record Media Watch" & breakfast
means the morning, not the night before.
I disagree. Breakfast doesn't necessarily mean morning at all. Many
cafes offer "all day breakfasts". Surely you have seen those signs?
I wasn't aware this was an argument. I thought it was a polite
discussion. I thought a person of your age and life experience would
know the difference. Perhaps I have misjudged your life experience.
Sitting behind a doctors desk for years on end, and passing judgements
on people who you don't know tends to do things to people I guess. And
now you are saying that you have NEVER seen a sign outside a cafe
advertising "all day breakfasts"? It seems you live in a different
world to the rest of us. I suggest you google "all day breakfasts"
and you might be surprised that it returns over 280 million websites.
