Police investigating alleged leak by police agent involved in protecting
far-right leader in run-up to Netherlands' parliamentary elections.

Anti-Islam Dutch MP Geert Wilders and his far-right Freedom Party suspended
all public activities on Thursday after a police agent was arrested for
allegedly leaking information about him to a Moroccan gang.

"Very disturbing news. The Freedom Party is suspending all public
activities until all facts in connection with the investigation are known,"
Wilders said on Twitter, as Dutch political parties gear up for a general
election on 15 March.

The firebrand MP, who has courted controversy with his hardline anti-Islam,
anti-immigrant stance and incendiary insults against Moroccans and Turks,
has long been under 24-hour police protection.

Tensions are escalating ahead of the election, in which the Freedom Party
is running neck-and-neck with the Liberals of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

On Saturday, Wilders upped the tone at the launch of his official campaign,
denouncing "a lot of Moroccan scum who make the streets unsafe".

The highly-respected NRC daily newspaper reported Wednesday that a police
agent involved in protecting Wilders had been arrested for allegedly
passing on information about him to a Moroccan crime gang.

Dutch police chief Erik Akkerboom confirmed an investigation had been
opened but said that Wilders' safety 'was never in question'.

Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, and his minister for security and justice
on Wednesday visited the heavily-guarded wing of Parliament that houses
Wilders' party offices. Rutte declined to discuss the nature of his visit.

Wilders later tweeted that the security breach 'is a serious case that

appointed to represent Chechen Jews by the Council of Elders of the Jewish
People. No such group, and no such Jews, say experts.

While Russia's mainstream Jewish leaders in Moscow firmly backed Israel's
actions in clashes this week with Palestinians at Jerusalem's Temple Mount,
the small Jewish community of Chechnya broke ranks with them and condemned
the Jewish state's "provocations" against Muslims in the holy city.

At least that was the story reported in Chechen national and local media,
including the Echo of Moscow radio station and Chechnya Today – the most
popular news site in the predominantly Muslim Russian republic.

There was just one problem with the news item: Chechnya apparently has no
organized Jewish community, and according to some Jewish people who were
born there, also next to no Jews.

The reports about where Chechen Jews stand on the issue of Jerusalem, where
police and Palestinians clashed Thursday night and Friday over Israel's
decision to place metal detectors at the entrance to the Temple Mount
compound near Al-Aqsa mosque, relied on a video message published Tuesday
by a man called Mosei Yunayev.

Claiming to speak for the Jewish community of Chechnya, he joined Chechen
President Ramzan Kadyrov in condemning Israel's actions at the Temple
Mount, where the mosque is situated. Chechen Jews, Yunayev said,
"wholeheartedly support" the sharp-worded rebuke of Israel by Kadyrov.

"Nonsense, I doubt there are even any Jews left in Chechnya, let alone an
organized Jewish community," Tamara Rafailova Kahlon, an Israeli who was
born in the Chechen capital of Grozny, told JTA on Friday. Her father,
Rafoi Rafailov, heads an association of Chechen Jews in the city of
Pyatigorsk, situated 150 miles west of Grozny in the North Caucasian
Federal District. "They all left, I don't know who this man speaks for,"
she said.
