Senator Corker does considerably better with the Republican tax bill than a married couple earning $30,000, with two kids http://cepr.net/blogs/beat-the-press/swamping-the-drain-with-senator-bob-corker-and-the-republican-tax-bill

BREAKING: Sen. @JohnCornyn just admitted a provision personally enriching @BobCorker was added to the tax bill as part of an effort to secure GOP votes for passage of the bill. Corker switched his vote to yes only after the provision was added to the bill

Most members of the middle class and poor pay a higher total tax rate than they did a half century ago. The rich pay a much lower rate.

The G.O.P. tax bill will aggravate the situation and turbocharge inequality.

"There's no way I could have known that the awful tax bill I now support benefits me because I still haven't read it" is not a great defense

People are understandably furious about the power outage at @ATLairport - but know this: Sunday in Puerto Rico 88 days after Maria Status.pr reports: *69% power generation (Thousands of Americans have been without power for nearly 3 months; it may be May before everyone has it)

for today only:

I am an agnostic but I have been a regular at South Church in Concord NH for a lot of reasons...they are the personification of an urban church that sees as it's mission the well being of the community, the woman who plays the music every Sunday morning, Abigail Charbeneau, is beyond a gift (she makes us smile, her eclectic taste is remarkable and she understands the mood of the times and finds the music that matches it) and, of course, the people and the pastors are truly "fine" folks. I This morning Helen Fitzgerald, a lay person in the church opened the service with her rewrite of Ist Corinthians 13. I asked her to email it to me, I am going to take a point of personal privilege and read to my radio audience on Monday but if you don't tune in, you might miss it. So, take the time to read it and even share it. As we fear that Trump will fire Mueller over the holidays, as we cede our country's future to the uber rich and multinationals, as division defines us as a nation, as an atomic war may be on the horizon and as the fires continue to rage in California I needed her words this morning...so may you.

Helen "rethinks" Ist Corninthians 13

If I decorate a Christmas tree adorned with bows, strands of twinkling lights, and shiny glass ornaments, but do not show love to those who have a different political point of view, it means nothing.

If I post photos of my volunteer work at the soup kitchen and my caroling in the nursing home, but do not show love to those whose skin is a different color, I’ve lost my way.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals, and arranging a beautiful table at mealtime, but do not show love to those who practice a different religion, I’ve become blind to what’s important.

If I decorate a wreath with pine cones and crocheted snowflakes, and sing with the choir on Christmas Eve, but don’t show love to those who speak a different language, those who are homeless, those who are addicted, I have missed the point.

If I’m so busy preparing for Christmas that I’m too exhausted and impatient to show love to those on the margins, no amount of shopping will be an adequate celebration of Jesus’ birth.

Love is kind, Love is generous,
Love enlarges my capacity to bring compassion to every conversation.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
Love never fails.
The presents under the tree will break, or be forgotten, or fail to bring the happiness we hoped for.
But Love – Love will endure.
