Was there any resolution or response to this issue. I have just started receiving this same announcement and an attempt to open the web page in the dialogue comes up with a 404 error. I am getting this result on both a laptop PC and an Android appliance. Thanks in advance. Ray.

Getting the same message here as well, looks like Google have stopped APRS.FI from using their maps??

This was Hessu's last comment on the issue:

Yes, thanks for that, but that was 11 months back. Seems the problem is still there. Anything more current? Ray

I decided to try it on my copy of Google Chrome, but before trying Chrome it I re-tried it on IE and Android to confirm the fault was still apparent, only to find it is now working correctly. Must have been a glitch which was promptly dealt with.  Thanks to whoever. Ray

> "Google has disabled use of the Maps API for this application.

I'm not quite sure what is happening. Here are some facts I've figured out
so far:

1) It happens all over the world, including Finland

2) It happens on all browsers (even iPads), so this time it's not an IE
bug (!!)

3) It has happened for a while, but judging from the burst of reports
yesterday, now it happens more often.

4) Google has, as a matter of fact, not disabled maps API for aprs.fi. For
most users the problem goes away when you RELOAD the map. If they had
disabled the API, it would simply, fully, stop working for good.

5) aprs.fi is nowhere near its usage limits. Google has a nice APIs
console (https://code.google.com/apis/console/) where I can monitor usage
of the aprs.fi API keys, how much of the daily usage quota is used (about
30%! I just checked), and any error messages about improper usage.
For project aprs.fi it currently says "Google Maps API v3: No known
issues". If something went wrong, I suppose it would say there.

So, I'm guessing this is a bug in the maps API, or something in their
limits on usage has changed. I'll try changing a few things (like
downgrading to a an older Maps API version) and see what happens.

Turns out there's not much to downgrade - I was already using a fixed /
pinned-down API version of 3.8, which has not had any changes since 1 May
2012:

http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/wiki/JavascriptMapsAPIv3Changelog

So, for kicks, I bumped up to 3.10. That might break or fix something
else, we'll see.

While you are checking out the API map issue, have you found anything about
the not loading in I.E.8 yet? (The map and everything comes up but the
screen just says 'LOADING' and never gets farther than that. No data can be
entered)

Nope, it loads fine on my IE8 (stock settings, Win7), I just tried.

Try disabling all plugins / extensions. If that helps, re-enable them one
by one. Especially some ad blocking plugins have blocked aprs.fi's
internal queries before.

If that doesn't help, check Tools => Developer tools => Script => Console
for any error messages.

Good morning,

If someone still sees the "API disabled" error message after this message,
please reply. Once someone has replied with a "yes", there's no need for a
lot of "me too" messages, I just need to know if it happens or not.

Thanks!

Hi all,

For a temp workaround on my website http://www.truckcam.tv
I have just added a button for visitors to click that gives them a popout
of the aprs.fi site.

Here is the basic code to do this in HTML on my site
Just change the button name start size and the callsign.

<input type="button" name="TruckCam popout tracking"
value="Click here for floating Tracking Map if not displayed below"
onclick="window.open('http://aprs.fi/g0hwc-14','newwindow',
'width=800, height=500 ');" />

I guess its easy stuff but its just a workaround for now

Hi Allan,

if you look on my site http://www.truckcam.tv you will see I have added 2 buttons while the one built into the
site is not working. One is for the APRS.FI popout and the 2nd one uses Google earth tracking in 3D by K6IB
both buttons are just above where the imbedded map should be.

Glad someone found the code of use.

Paul! - top of the class in my book. You say "easy stuff" but your workaround is a big improvement on what I had before. Mind if I steal that?

I assume this is now fixed as I found I was getting a blank page where the map should be, tried it just a few moments ago and appears to be working again?

5 days ago I re-enabled it. Not "fixed" as such, as I disabled
embedded maps intentionally.
