Call for Sessions: Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC) 2016 in Rome

The 26th annual Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC) is to be held at the Sapienza, Università di Roma, from Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 March 2016. TRAC is an unincorporated voluntary association that has developed from and around the annual series of Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conferences held since 1991. The first TRAC was held to widen the range of perspectives offered, and voices heard, in Roman Archaeology. Following on from the initial conferences, TRAC continues to organize an annual conference and to produce a publication of selected Proceedings within 12 months. Individual conferences are primarily organized by a Local Organizing Committee with the support of the TRAC Standing Committee and a number of sponsoring organizations. Since the mid-1990s, TRAC has been held – in alternate years – alongside the Roman Archaeology Conference (RAC) organized by the Archaeology Committee of the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies (aka “the Roman Society”). TRAC 2016, for the first time, will be held in Italy: at the Sapienza, Università di Roma, alongside the Roman Archaeology Conference. Proposals are now invited for TRAC conference sessions: • A TRAC session should consist of 4 to 6 presentations. • Presentations should last no longer than 30 minutes (20 minutes speaking, with 10 minutes for questions and discussion). • At the end of sessions there will be time for general discussion. • The official conference languages are English and Italian. Those wishing to organize a session for TRAC 2016 should submit: • Proposed title of the session. • Name, affiliation and email of the proposer(s). • An abstract of no longer than 350 words detailing the proposed topic, content and aims. • A list of proposed speakers and the proposed titles of associated papers. |
We welcome sessions that critically engage with aspects of current theory and practice in the field of Roman Archaeology, particularly those that offer innovative new approaches or those that can stimulate a dialectical debate. Please note that session proposals will preferably keep 2-3 presentation slots open in order to be filled by papers proposed through the subsequent Call for Papers; only in exceptional circumstances will completely full sessions be accepted. The deadline for the submission of session proposals is Friday 18 September 2015. Submissions should be sent by email to the TRAC 2016 Local Organizing Committee:tracro...@gmail.com All session proposal submissions will go through a peer review process, and there is no guarantee that proposed sessions will be selected as part of the TRAC 2016 program. The degree to which each proposed session critically and coherently engages with archaeological theory will be a key criteria for inclusion in TRAC 2016. Sessions proposers will be informed of the Committee’s decision by email. The Conference schedule (including accepted sessions) will be announced by the end of September 2015.
