Altshul Announcements
  • Passing of Janet Frankel Staub, mother of Rena Staub
Rena Staub is sitting shiva following the loss of her mother, Janet Frankel Staub z"l. One way to support Rena during this difficult time is to help make a minyan this Sunday morning, April 26, which will be hosted at the home of Eytan Kurshan at 10am. If you can be there, please sign up here.

Additionally, Rena will be reciting kaddish at her apartment in Park Slope tonight, April 22nd at 8pm. If anyone is available to participate in a maariv minyan in her home, please email soc...@altshul.org.

If anyone is interested in contributing towards sending a meal to the shiva house on behalf of the Altshul community, please email soc...@altshul.org.

To learn more about Jewish mourning practices and making a respectful shiva visit, please see here. It is traditional for community members to provide food for mourners. Please stay tuned for opportunities to provide a meal for Rena in the coming weeks, and email soc...@altshul.org. You may also honor Janet's memory with a donation to the Silver Academy in Harrisburg, PA.

    Baruch Dayan Emet.

  • Atlshul Beit Midrash, Saturday April 25, 8-10am

  • Altshul Volunteer Shift Signup
There's now a new and easy way to sign up for your Altshul Setup Shift. We ask that everyone who attends Altshul volunteer at least one Shabbat morning or Friday night per year. The role includes helping set up shul, greeting people at the door, and cleaning up shul (not kiddush) afterward. It's easy, and Altshul depends on everyone taking part. Volunteers will be supported with detailed, easy-to-follow instructions, a teammate, and the opportunity to select their volunteer date. Sign up using the Altshul Shift Signup Form. Please contact Cheryl at logi...@altshul.org with any questions.
Volunteers needed on the following dates:
April 25 (Saturday Morning at 10 am)
May 9 (Saturday Morning at 10 am)
May 15 (Friday Evening at 7 pm)

We are once again hosting the CBE Respite Bed Shelter from May 17 to June 25 in partnership with CAMBA. The shelter will run from Sunday night to Thursday night, providing dinner and shelter for up to 12 guests each night. Volunteering to help the CBE shelter is a great experience for families with teens (and many others!) and provides a much-needed service.

For more information or to volunteer for food preparation or an overnight stay (we always need 2 guests a night to sleep over), please visit http://congregationbethelohim.org/content/homeless-shelter.

  • NEW: Sublet Listing
I'm looking for a clean and courteous person to sublet my large, furnished bedroom in my bright and spacious 3-bedroom apartment in Prospect Heights starting between May 1st and May 15th,
hopefully with a commitment for at least a few months. The rent is $1050/month and could include use of the furniture or not; utilities come out to about $40 - $50 per month. It is an amazing location, located literally a couple blocks away from Prospect Park and Grand Army Plaza, and it is about a five minute walk to the 2/3 and B/Q trains. You would be living with two ladies, both friendly, queer-friendly, and Jewish. Every so often there is a dinner party, but otherwise, the space is very peaceful and homey. For more info, be in touch with Miriam at curiou...@gmail.com. Thanks!

  • NEW: Hadag Nahash With Special Guest Matisyahu
