E!News Weekend had another segment on the X-Files finale. They
interviewed Mimi Rogers who says she plays an FBI agent who has had a
past relationship with Mulder. (She hints it was romantic) They also
had brief interviews with DD, GA & MP. It plays all weekend.

You say "Aaaak". Is Mimi Rogers bad, in some way? I rather like her. Did you
see "Someone to Watch Over Me"?

I love Mimi Rogers, I loved her in "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "The
Rapture". I said "Aaak", because I was surprised that they actually confirmed
in some way that she was in the final episode and that she played an FBI agent
who had a prior relationship with Mulder.

Kinda odd seeing as she's a long time Scientologist and Millennium did
that episode mocking the cult a while back.

I really don't think one needs to unfairly put down other actors in order
to justly praise Gillian. GA would shine no matter *who* was sharing the
screen or stage with her! Saying that a poor co-star would make her look
better almost implies that she needs to work opposite poor actors in order
to look good, which is hardly the case. I'm sure any actor would agree
that the better your co-stars, the better your own performance. Of course,
in my biased eyes, GA would probably outshine anyone the casting directors
could throw at her; but even objectively, I think she could hold her own
with the best of them -- and be mutually inspired/challenged to be even
better. Sure, she could act rings around Pamela Anderson or David
Hasselhoff, if she didn't die of boredom first. But if you really want
to see her shine, imagine her working with Helen Mirren or Gary Oldman
(her idols and mine!)
I've only seen Mimi Rogers in two things. She was a bit stiff
when hosting E!'s BEHIND THE SCENES of LOST IN SPACE; but then, so are
both DD & GA in the presence of teleprompters. As for THE RAPTURE,
I thoroughly agree with whichever reviewer called her performance a
tour-de-force. That one long *continuous* take (without any cutaways
to different camera angles) where she tells the police officer about her
missing daughter is simply amazing. So acting-wise, MR seems more than
capable of handling a guest shot on XF. She fits the usual 1013 casting
profile of a competent working actor who isn't too easily recognizable to
be distracting, but with the added bonus of giving us a chance to see both
DD & GA act opposite someone with whom one of them has worked before.
As far as looks go, I'm glad 1013 didn't cast someone too
glamourous ... and that MR is consistent with the leggy-yet-brainy brunette
type Mulder seems to have preferred in his pre- or missing-Scully days
(ie. Phoebe, Kristen, and even Bambi ... Detective White being either a
Syzygy-induced aberration, or a brunette with a dye job. Besides, despite
being Syzygied, annoyed with Scully, vulnerable, and alcohol-impaired,
our boy ultimately turned her down. ;-)
And the final bonus: thanks to THE RAPTURE, *focused* viewers
won't have *any* problem imagining DD & MR naked in bed together. 8-}
... nope, no problem at all ...

Basically, I share your views except for the fact
that I don't like MR. However, having a poor
co-star is not an advantage for an actor, I'm
sorry if my last post suggested that. What I meant
was that she wouldn't pose any threat to =Scully=,
I know I wasn't very clear about that though...

I'm still suffering from post-season 3 trauma
caused by Bambi and the amazingly annoying
Detective White, and agree wholeheartedly with you
that it's nice to have someone not-so-glamourous
playing Mulder's ex.
But I still think she's a lame actress... ;) On
the other hand, I haven't seen The Rapture, maybe
I oughta do that, huh?

I was merely expressing my opinion that I don't think she is
a very good actress. Is it allowed around here to have a
different opinion than most people? As I explained in a
previous post my intention was =not= to suggest that GA
needs a poor co-star in order to shine.

The bottom line was that I find MR very non-threatening to
the M/S-relationship. O.K.? :)

I thought she was very, very effective in The Rapture. But I must say, that
movie disturbed me.....but that was it's intent, I think. Of course, DD
getting out of bed in that movie just sticks in my mind to the exclusion of
everything else. If you know what I mean ;-)

Just for the record, she never said that she is the ex-wife, just that that
her character and Mulder had a closer relationship than she and David do in
real life. She could be another ex-girlfirend, not necessarily the
ex-wife, or for all we know she could be the *real* Samantha..

Hey now!!! Mimi Rogers is one of my favorite actresses. Ah me, back to

I'm actually NOT glad that it's her...even though I'd love to see her

They can afford it now :-) Sides, she's not so big name that the vast
majority wouldn't have heard of her. Or maybe 1013 is underestimating
it's "pseudointellectual" audience and assuming we've never heard of
her. (C'mon guys! She was in the Rapture with DD, for pete's sake!)

She basically did that out of a favor for Randy Stone, her best friend
and the guy who casted Gillian (by basing his decision on someone who
reminded him of JF's portrayal of Clarice Starling in the Silence of
the Lambs.)

So much for this place getting to be nice. Who peed in your Cheerios?

I think the original poster was just making a comparison, and a clever

Well, sorry to ruin your utopian image of this group, but I didn't agree with
your assesment of the post. It looks to me like the poster *was* saying that
X-Files was ripping off Babylon 5, and judging from the way the post is
phrased, I don't see any reason to believe otherwise. I wasn't outright
insulting, but still expressed my annoyance with the post.

Other than the fact that you are a "nice person" (which I apparantly am not),
why do you think that the poster was not trying to say ripping off B5?

What makes you think he was? All he said was "How very Babylon 5 of
them." He said it was LIKE B5, not that they were ripping it off. He
was making a comparison. It reminded him of something on B5, so he
told us about it. I fail to see why it deserved such a negative
response from you.
