At the risk of starting yet another flame war, here is the FAQ again.
Thank you to the people who wrote us and helped make it better and
clearer than it was.

Frequently asked questions about alt.startrek.creative.all-ages:

This FAQ is was designed to make it easier for everyone to enjoy
alt.startrek.creative.all-ages. If you have any suggestions, please
email the FAQ Maintainer at umbj...@cc.umanitoba.ca.

Alt.Startrek.All-ages (ASCA) is a subgroup of Alt.Startrek.Creative (ASC)
for the posting of fan fiction stories from ASC that would also be
considered appropriate for older children and younger teens to read. This
is not a kiddie group. The material will be geared towards and be
suitable for adults so we do recommend parental guidance. However parents
can let their children read from this newsgroup without concern about
NC-17 material being present.
It is moderated and does not permit graphic sex, extreme violence, or
presentation of concepts (such as slash, bdsm, drug use, etc.) or
relationships in which the principle "canon" characters are shown to be
engaged in behaviour of an adult and/or controversial nature which
parents might feel is inappropriate to children.

We ask our writers as a courtesy to busy parents, to please provide a
short synopsis of about five lines to summarize the story inserted at the
beginning. This will allow readers (and parents) to quickly skim the
stories and to remove any they don't want from the postings.
Personal conversations, advertisements, binaries and the general
discussion of Star Trek is also not permitted here. While we encourage
reasoned discussion of stories, appeals, and policy, the moderators will
not post messages that are abusive, slanderous, contain foul language, or
include name calling. In other words, no flaming.

Some stories (such as slash, bdsm, drug use, etc.) which depict sexual
relationships between characters that in canon obviously are not in
sexual relationships nor will they ever be are not permitted ASCA. An
example of such a story would be a love story between Spock and Kirk,
Crusher and Troi, or Sisko and Keiko. Such stories often include
relationships that might be interpreted as violating commonly held sexual
harassment guidelines about things like doctor/patient relationships and
sexual relationships between superiors and subordinates. This type of
story also sometimes changes well established sexual mores of a canon
character. A Miles/Dax story would violate canon because Miles has
already been established in canon as monogamous in his marriage to Keiko.

Our reason for excluding Slash is that while such changes from the
established norm are fine for adult readers who can discern their intent,
they would potentially confuse older children/young teenagers about the
nature of adult sexual relationships, adult friendships, and adult
professional relationships. The exclusion of Slash is not intended as a
judgement value on what type of relationship is appropriate in real adult
life and should not be taken as such.

Even though Paramont has chosen to largely ignore the existence of gays
and lesbians, nonexplicit stories that include gays and lesbians but
conform to canon with regard to established characters are welcome here.

Because this group is moderated a bonus benefit is that there will be no
advertising, spamming, multiple cross posting of messages, or off topic
discussions permitted.

Moderation is being done by three unpaid volunteers. If two of three
moderators decide your story is fits our guidelines, it will be posted.

Since we moderators are not perfect, an appeal process has been set up to
allow you to appeal the moderators decisions if you disagree with them.
See the separate FAQ on appealing for details. We also remind you that
you are free to post your disputed story on alt.startrek.creative during
the appeal process.

Please try to make your subject headers confrom to the guidelines for ASC
as this will make cross posting and archiving simplier.

Again, All-ages (ASCA) is a subgroup of ASC for the posting of adult
oriented fan fiction stories from ASC that would also be considered
appropriate for older children and younger teens to read. It is moderated
and does not permit graphic sex, extreme violence, or presentation of
concepts (such as slash, bdsm, drug use, etc.) or relationships in which
the principle "canon" characters are shown to be engaged in behaviour of
an adult and/or controversial nature which parents might feel is
inappropriate to children.Personal conversations, flaming,
advertisements, binaries and the general discussion of Star Trek is also
not permitted here. There are other groups out there for that.

| General Suggestions |
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

First, please only post your work or work which you have obtained
permission to post.

Second, all stories that are posted here may make their way into the ASC
archive. If you do not what them in the archive, please note that in the
first 40 lines.

The authors of both ASC and ASCA group LOVE feedback. It's the reason we
post the stories (other than the fact we thought it was a good story) So
e-mail them, post a reply if you are more out going.
