"The worldwide operation of Scientology is run by a fraternal
organization called the Sea Organization"
(the was on Blownforgood's new website) it made me think of the many
labels that the cult of $cientology has received. fraternal order,
NRM, cult, subversive group, fraudulent, criminal, et al.
Was reading about, contravening the 'Societies Act," (contravene means
'violate'). (There is such an 'Act' in Malaysia, as 'societies' are
registered'). Here is an example of the how it works in Malaysia, and
why certain groups are cited:
“The ministry found the organisation’s activities contravened the
Societies Act 1966 and if left unchecked, the organisation could pose
a threat to public order, peace, security and morality."
(from: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/10/16/nation/2289400&sec=nation
'Government bans Hindraf for contravening Societies Act')
In knowing that $cientology has many front groups, as secular, etc..
this affords them the evasion of being prosecuted under any one name.
The old favorite saying frequently used is, 'they can't have it both
ways,'
as far as the business goes of having a tax exempt status.
There were a few older names registered in the past of Dianetics and
$cientology, these were found on the 'enemies list, actual names of
Dianetic 'societies,' but you wonder if they were really just avenues
that were front groups too close to being exposed in the Dianetics/(or
conversion to) $cientology tax schemes.

In many countries they are a business. It varies worldwide.
Maybe in Malaysia they would be contravening the Society Act. In the
UK they would be mosty likely contravening the Hypnosis Act of 1952.
a google groups search for 'contravening' brings a large return for
'court orders' or 'international law.'

Sure, there were people in the past history of Dianetics/Scientology
who didn't want to succumb to Hubbard's totalitarian rules or
research. Then again, there was also Hubbard's lust for money and
control. And maybe there were names that came too close to be labeled
under the laws of different countries. Much like the front groups
change currently. Certainly the merry-go-round of names and
registrations in each country serves to evade justice. To beat every
rule and law.
The Society Act had a nice ring to it. They would violate that
anywhere. Without hiding under secular, religious, spiritual. They are
just pariahs.
So, fwiw $cientology violates alot of things. It's interesting to look
at different countries to see 'how they uphold their morals' without
the secular/religious shore stories.
