Sorry if this is a redundant post, but I've been gone for a few months (you
don't wanna know....)

What's up with the new record? Has Elektra pushed it to the side to prepare
for Metallica's new bank-buster? I hope it comes out soon...

I've heard it's coming out in April, but the Elektra New Releases page
isn't especially new, as about the latest date on it is possibly the
end of February. Hopefully it'll come out sometime in the next 50
years... hopefully quite a bit sooner...

The latest rumor I've heard is that Superfueled has been delayed until
after the release of the next studio album...which is supposed to come
out "before the end of the year."

Hey, where'd you here that? Both parts, i.e. that there is in fact a

Look at this:

They Might Be Giants 1986
Lincoln 1988
Flood 1990
Apollo 18 1992
jhohn Henry 1994
(MiSCELLANEOUS t is in 1991, so it breaks the pattern), but! Look, it seems
every two years, we get a new studio CD! This being 1996, and since
1994+2=1996, I think he's very acurate!

Yeah, hi, TMBG albums are put out by TMBG as a result of much creativity and
hard work. They are not controlled by some cosmic pattern or planetary cycle.

"Toddler Hiway" was only asking for confirmation of solid info. He was most
likely not interested in your "pattern" theory.

Hey, don't worry be happy, folks. The pattern theory holds some weight, as
we've been hearing rumors that there will be a new album in the fall. The
fact that they've released an album every two years up until this year,
along with those rumors, makes it seem pretty likely that we'll get a new
album soon. Of course, I'm just conjecturing, and I could be completely
wrong, but I don't think so.
On a different note, I really hope the Freaksicle gets released before
the new album. Look, Misc. T was B-sides culled from two albums worth of
material, and we got all the good stuff in one place (ok, so the DLS and
Hotel Detective remixes were lame-besides that). With Superfueled, not
only do they have 3 albums worth of b-sides to take material from, they
also had the live promo album, which means that no matter what, we're
gonna lose some of the cool b-sides, such as Larger Than Life. If they
wait until after the next studio album to release, it follows that we'll
lose even more of the good stuff do to lack of space. Sure it would be
great for us if they released a 30-track b-side album, but I don't see it
happening. So here's hoping that it does come out in April.

I also hope that SF is released before the possibly-titled "Alien
Autopsy", but Flans, and I hope he wasn't just making a joke, was
talking about putting all the b-sides that didn't make it on to Freak,
(i.e. Larger Than Life) on a vinyl-only release called "Crappy".

And I LIKE the Hotel Detective and DLS single mixes! 8)

you can mail order the singles cd's through the tmbg newsletter, if you
get it. and as for the new album, superfueled freaksicle is the
tentative full name. it's just such a long title, that people just type
half of it.

Okay! I went thru the discography and culled out what I think is a
complete list of Elektra-age B-sides. If I left anything out, someone
tell me, okay?

B-Sides (plus collection, sndtrk songs):

Ant
James K. Polk
Stormy Pinkness
I'm Def
Cabbagetown
Siftin'
Welcome To The Jungle
I Blame You
Moving To The Sun
Why Does The Sun Shine?
Jessica
Whirlpool
Ondine
She Was A Hotel Detective
Mrs. Train
SenSurround
25 O'Clock
One More Parade

Remakes/Remixes:

"Larger Than Life"
Istanbul (Brownsville)
" (Park Slope)
" (Bedford/Stuyvesant)
Your Racist Friend (Sampla-Delic)
The Guitar (Outer Planet)
" " (Even further outer planet)
" " (UK Radio Edit)
Spy (single mix)
Snail Dust
Sleeping In The Flowers (radio edit)

So, a total of 18 B-sides/sndtrk songs, and 11 remixes/remakes/new
versions of album tracks. So, TMBG basically have three options:

1) Put out a disc with all the original B-sides and as many remixes
will fit in the remaining space,

2) Put out a disc with a "selection" of B-sides and remixes, with many
entries missing from both categories.

3) Put out a double-disc set with all the B-sides on one CD, and the
promo EP and the remixes on the other.

I, personally, would probably prefer option 1, although the
double-disc option could work well too. I just really hope they don't
decide to go for option two, which would screw all their listeners. I
buy B-side collection so I won't have to go out and buy a lot of
singles to get all the cool B-sides the group has put out. Having an
incomplete B-side compilation pretty much defeats the purpose.

Okay. I've been away from the newsgroup for awhile, but not totally
away from record stores. where did these songs come from? the
mysterious Instanbul re-release I read of a few minutes ago? Some
other single I completely missed? The Power Rangers soundtrack?

Oh, and as for the options:

I vote for #3. Especially if They were to continue their recent trend
of providing lengthy CD's with many tracks, since they'd have to fill
quite a few tracks on each with other remixes that we hadn't heard yet
and perhaps some experimental future B-sides. :)

Flansburgh was talking about a bonus vinyl-only album called "Crappy",
which would include all the B-side/Remixes that weren't good enough
for Freak. But no one knows if he was making it up or not. Also,
I've heard that They're going to dump one of the remixes (Larger than
Life, I think) for one of the live tracks on the EP. I think They're
also going to have some new material, like They did with the first 5
or so tracks on Misc. T.

I agree whole heartedly. I'd love to see a double-cd set from tmbg, with
all the great b-sides, so I don't have to go rummageing around for singles
... What a pain in the butt. Plus, it would simply be nice to be able to
put two cd's in the 'ol player and have all that great music instead of
having to continuely switch singles in and out of the cd player....

Misc. T was (as far as I can gather from looking at the sleeve) a
re-release of the Don't Let's Start EP plus one song (Mr. Radio?).
I must admit I felt a bit let down when I found a new album only to
discover there was just one extra song, and the cover (if I remember) was
one they had used for several other things.

The Istanbul re-release is about that you can now order Istanbul
direct from TMB Productions, and thusly can find it at record stores
more easily.

Well, off hand, I'd say either to beg someone who has them, because I
don't think they're in print anymore (as singles rarely stay...) but
you might want to try thru' Elektra itself. TMB Products don't sell
them. The only Istanbul available has Polk, Ant and Stormy Pinkness
(and the rather loathsome other remix...). But both Istanbul and YRF
were Elektra releases.

I think these ones are probably some of the mixes they only included
