maybe, but whatever...
kick ass album. very different, much more produced(same producer as ok
computer, mutations...), dense and layered, complex and subtle than any of
their other work. the wide range of influences evident in this album are
startling(lou reed, pink floyd, black sabbath, dylan, the dead, beatles to
name a few) probably their most accesable album. it embraces musical
standards in a way no other pavement release has but put in a vey original
and clearly pavementesque context. this is pavements sellout album no need
to wait any longer. it also might be there best album yet. but i have some
kind of mental block from preventing me from admitting that almost anything
is better than wowee zowee. so u decide.

it's a great album. pavement has grown up alot since the early days.
some people might not like it, but i loved it the first time i listened
to it. 'crooked rain crooked rain' is still one on my favorite albums of
all time, but i really love the new stuff. they have gotten into their
own little groove and are doing what they do best, playing great music.
i also love the production work on 'terror twilight'. everything sounds
so good, but yet not over-produced. the guy responsible for that also
produced beck's 'mutations' which was the shit!
i can't wait to see pavement when ever they make it down to tampa
(florida). they always seen to come here on their second round of
touring, so maybe in the fall they'll make their way down here...
i've seen them 5 times before (twice in one day!!!!! laloopaallooozzza
in 1995 in atlanta) and they get better every time. at that
laloopallloooozzzaa show in 95, they did their 45 minute set on the main
stage and them dragged all of their stuff over to the side stage to
close it out for the day. mike watt was supossed to headline the
sidestage, but he wasn't going to be able to make it to atlanta from
wherever he was the day before. on the side stage, pavement played every
song they could think of (some of them ended half-way thru because they
couldn't remember how to play them!) the side stage show was not
anouced, i only found out about it because i went to the sound board to
find out what time watt might be playing and i was told that pavement
was taking his place. when they started playing, not many people were
around, but by the end of the set there were tons of people watching.

did anybody else see that show?

sorry for going on and on like that...

Terror Twilight is not accessible... It's clean, but too complex and moody
for mainstream audiences. Too smart in other words. It debuted at 95 on the
billboard charts, which is signifigantly lower than their last album,
Brighten the Corners. I suggest getting it, cause it's really good.

just picked up my vinyl copy of 'terror twilight' tonight, can't wait to give
it a spin. pavement is one of those bands that sounds better on vinyl (as do
the sonics, shellac, and beck as well as many others). if you record in the
studio on analog tape and master it on analog tape, the vinyl will sound
better because you never went digital and clipped yr sound.
i don't want to get into a fight about vinyl vs cds, but it is a
scientifically proven fact that records far surpass cds in sound quality. if
you want to fight about it, send yr mail to steve albini!

accesible doesn't necessarily mean commercially viable. it just means the
songs are, at least on one of their many levels, easier to get into. which i
would say is definitely truer of this album than any other pav album

I saw them on the 2nd stage around 5pm(?), and I think Cypress Hill was on the
main stage at the time. Unfortunately, I hadn't really heard much of their
stuff, but I got a charge out of their show. And wouldn't it just figure, now
they are my 2nd fave band after SY.
Also that is the only time that I have seen SY in concert, and it was an
experience not to be forgotten. I hope that they'll tour close enough that
I'll get a chance to see them again. Baton Rouge doesn't really stand a chance
but another road trip would be cool.

Erm... I'm not completely up with you young people and your hip lingo, but
does that mean good or bad? I thought Mutations was one of the best recorded
albums I've ever heard. Besides being a great album.

Oh, the Pavement album's pretty good as well.

Anyway, Sonic Youth....

No arguments here - Pavement definitely sound better on vinyl. The CD of
Brighten The Corners in particular is an absolute disgrace.

that meant good. 'mutations' sounds great, but it sounds real... it's not full
of slick studio tricks and an over-zealous knob turner in the studio.

I'm freaking dying here because I've waited years for this record and i don't
like it.

And I'm pissed. I'm pissed at the two-bit CD reviews in "alternative" magazines
who had the gall to compare this record to Wowee Zowee. W Z was one of the most
beautiful haphazzard records I've ever heard.
Terror Twilight? Where are the guitars? Where is the faux-pas angst?
It seems every song is dedicated to a Shady lane. Oh, how cleverly bland.
This band is done, in my books.
The new Flaming Lips record is dynamite, however.
And thank god Jason still does half of Sebadoh's songs.

>Where are the guitars? Where is the faux-pas angst?
the guitars are everywhere, deliciously controlled and intertwined, pay
attention the guitar work on TT is amazing, not in the same way as in past
albums, but amazing none the less. if it makes you feel any better the album
was supposed to be more rocking, but according to sm the band couldn't
handle the extra level of complexity of the new stuff and have it be loud
fast paced and rockin at the same time. bummer,

>It seems every song is dedicated to a Shady lane.
thats the most ignorant statement about the album i have heard yet. i just
don't understand how you can say that, when its so obviously wrong. either
clarify why you would say that cream of gold or the hexx, or billie or even
anne dont cry for that matter are shady lanesque or i will think yr a fool
>Oh, how cleverly bland.
the word is subtle. this album is VERY subtle. maybe too subtle for u.

>This band is done, in my books.
perhaps

>The new Flaming Lips record is dynamite, however.
yes its great.
