So I *finally* received a reply from the NPGMC concerning the missing audio
file for June. As expected, they tried to say the extra videos made up for
the missing song. Here's what they had to say:

"All has been fulfilled. In the "Join Now" section it says Basic Members
will receive 3 files plus the ahdio show. In June there were 2 mp3's and 2
videos, which equals 4 total files. (btw, we have responded 2 numerous
inquires of yours, even the offensive one)"

So now they find it "offensive" when we complain that we're not getting what
we pay for. Here's the reply I've already sent off to them:

You:
All has been fulfilled. In the "Join Now" section it says Basic Members
will receive 3 files plus the ahdio show. In June there were 2 mp3's and 2
videos, which equals 4 total files.

Me:
No, that is not what the "Join Now" section says. It says (and I quote
verbatim):

"This BASIC Membership will entitle u 2 download a minimum of 3 songs per
month and an hour-long Ahdio show hosted by the NPG. More songs or videos
may b added every month depending on availability."

You make a clear distinction between songs (re: audio files) and videos when
you state that "more songs or videos may b added every month". By including
the 'or', you make the distinction that songs and videos are two disparate
entities and are not equal or interchangeable. You clearly state that
members will receive a minimum of 3 songs (audio files) per month; you do
NOT state that basic members will receive a minimum of 3 songs or videos
each month. In the month of June, basic members received two audio files
only.

You:
(btw, we have responded 2 numerous inquires of yours, even the offensive
one)

Me:
Yes, you have responded to numerous inquiries of mine, but you have also
ignored numerous inquiries. I also fail to see how my voicing my opinion
concerning the quality of the club's content in a rational manner could be
construed as "offensive"; quite frankly, I find it insulting that customers
voicing their opinion about dissatisfaction with the service they are paying
for is viewed by the NPGMC as "offensive". Several other members have read
my complaints, and not one has found them in any way to be offensive.

If you wish to receive no further complaints, either improve the quality of
the club's content or refund the remainder of my membership fee.

Thank you,

David Platt

And here's the original message they found "offensive":

>As a Premium member of the NPGMC, I feel I have been quiet for far too
>long. This month has finally forced me to voice my opinion. The NPGMC
>has consistently failed to fulfill its obligations to its paying
>customers-- it has provided incredibly low-quality files (particularly

>The most egregious example has been this month. Files were promised from

>Basic members are promised three audio files per month, with VIP members

>this month. Of course, I fully expect your reply to be "yes, but we gave
>you three extra video files this month." My reply to this? It doesn't
>matter. You are a business; we are your paying customers. You promise a
>certain product; you must deliver it or face the consequences. You cannot
>choose to not fulfill one of your obligations and give us something else
>of subpar quality instead.
>
>We were promised exclusive tracks, and we are simply not getting them. As
>an example: in the first month, we were given a video file of 'U Make My
>Sun Shine' as an exclusive release; a mere two days later the same video
>was released (in a longer form, I might add) to BET. We were given a
>video that was not exclusive at all; to add insult to injury, we weren't
>even given the full version of the video. Unacceptable.
>
>Let me finish by saying that I think the NPGMC has shown great potential
>at times; it *has* given us some exclusive music, and for that I am
>appreciative. You must remember, though, that you cannot keep treating
>your customers in this haphazard manner and expect everything to be okay.
>There have been grumblings among fangroups since the NPGMC debuted

>almost certainly develop into something more if members are not treated

David,

"or" does mean they are interchangeable. As in "On Sunday, I will be at the
beach or at the pool (one or the other).

Not exactly the same thing. What you're saying is that you will be one
place or the other (in other words, one of two things will occur). It
doesn't mean that the two items are interchangeable; it just means that it
is unclear which of the two things will occur.

The 'or' necessarily establishes a difference between the two things. If a
friend came looking for you at the beach, and you were at the pool, you
couldn't go back and say "but I was at the beach. the beach and the pool
are the same thing," which is in effect what the NPGMC is trying to do.

Of course, you would have an out, because you said that you would be either
place-- but the NPGMC didn't do that. They said they were going to the
beach and went to the pool instead, and now they are trying to say that the
beach and the pool are the same thing.

Yep, you're right. I was talking about the use of "or", which in my view
denotes interhangeability. But upon reading the whole opus, I admit I

It's kinda hardcore that they said your mails were "offensive" man.

ICustomer service goes to a pint, I've told folks that I was gonna
throw them out the window by their ear for treatng me like THEIR slave
and DEMANDING me to do things for them in a rude way... THAT
situation imarticular (there have been many) was "Offensive" and
called for my line to be drawn of "customer service". I don't see how
complaining about not fllfilling a CONTRACT can be offensive, and I've
read your posts about the letters you have sent to NPGMC... I find
them courteous and well written out, to the point, and completely
within the bounds of deserving true customer service and PROFFESIONAL
responses. The reponse I see here is definately NOT proffesional and
absolutely show signs that they are sick of hearing from you.

I dunno about all the "Call the better business bureau" stuff but I
believe this reply would definaltely be a good candidate as evidence
of unpreoffesionalism if it were ever brought up.

And I didn't toss that guy out by his ear... But I would have had my
manager not see what was going on and kick the guy out. ;)

offensive. :-)

See this is exactly why I held off from joining the music club. I knew it
would be another Prince-business thing.

Any service or product supplied by Prince seems to carry with it, it's own
rules, outside of the business world.

This is a breach of a financial agreement, and if I had joined, I would take
it as seriously as if I had bought something from any other company.

You need to keep on at them about this, and get as many members to do the
same. People like myself, non-members, can't really complain, only
sympathise, but if you get the support of enough people you can do something
about it.

All these fucking idiots who think the sun shines out of Prince's arse need
a good slap round the head. They deserve to be shafted by Prince time and
time again because they accept this behaviour.

Good on you!

everyone. I dont mind giving Prince a little leway. My only opinion is
dont put out songs by other artists as the main songs like he did one month.

MY REAL OPINION IS: Put out an album after you get a song on it on the
radio that is popular/. THEN GO ON TOUR>

Thanks. My feelings exactly.

Hey, Sapphire, you're from Houston, right? How're things going with the
flood cleanup down there? My parents just sent me a PowerPoint slideshow
somebody put together with a bunch of pictures from the flood; that looked
pretty intense. That's the first time I've been *glad* that I didn't live
in Houston anymore...

To top it off, they insulted me in the reply for being 'offensive' when I've
been anything but.

To me, it's not about pleasing everyone; it's about giving us what we pay
for. I don't care if they gives us three Fonky Baldheads tracks every
month; at least they'd be fulfilling their end of the obligation. I
definitely wouldn't be happy about it, but I couldn't see complaining about
it because we got into the club knowing that they can put up whatever music
they want.

Yes, I live close to Houston. The cleanup is slow going. Those people have
literally lost everything and because of what? Poor planning when it comes
to new construction. You can't tell me these builders down here don't know
that when it rains, because it doesn't rain very often, the water has
nowhere to go. When you fill all the land with concrete, it has even fewer
places to go.
A friend of mine is an independent contractor and he told me that unless you
actually see the destruction for yourself, you just cannot imagine how sad
it really is. I feel for those people.
Luckily, I live West of Houston and we were not affected. We have more land
out here, too, but even that is changing rapidly. I'd give anything to not
live here.
I hear West Virginia has been hit very badly by flooding, as well.
What part of Houston are you from?
