Apparently he owes them some royalties. Methinks he should put out the
live album now to raise some cash.

Yeah, directly from the horses mouth I hear that royalties he's specifically

Well, I got about .75 in my pocket. If we can raise another 5 bucks, that
should cover his royalties. :)

Why has it taken so long? They haven't worked with The Artist in years.

Probably because O(+> has been bragging about all this money he's making and of
course it's pissing people off, so Levi and Tony are wanting 2 get their fair
share. I wouldn't be surprised if Carmen steps into the picture too stating
that she didn't get her dues (like her credits on Good Judy Girlfriend and All
That) as if anyone thinks that she even contributed.

This is getting interesting!! Wonder if L4OA will post anything regarding this?
Time will tell.

maybe she'll start bitching at him to turn over the master tapes he owns of
the (unreleased) songs they did together :) i'd like to see his reaction to
that one.

Wait a minute, they both got seperate publishing through ASCAP. They
must be suing for production credit or for a contract dispute. Since
their royalties are based on sales, they should both get an even $20

suing P over 75 songs and alleging that P is "being funky about money."

Here's the swipe from the Family website:

CJ's column 10/20/98 Minneapolis Star Tribune

"Just shocking. A lawyer trying to serve a lawsuit to Prince alleges that
Symbolina 'conceals himself within the state of Minnesota with the intent to
avoid personal service of process.' Either attorney Timothy Matson is not up on
how Prince operates -- the pop singer has an unlisted phone number to his
Chanhassen recording studio! -- or the attorney is being tongue-in-cheek in the
affidavit attached to a suit filed in Hennepin County last week by Levi Seacer
Jr. and Anthony Mosley [Tony M.]. They claim that Prince has not shared
royalties they are owed for songs they've cowritten for Prince's NPG
Publishing. The suit lists 75 songs, including 'Sexy M.F.,' and 'My Name Is
Prince,' for which Seacer and Mosley are alleging that Prince Rogers Nelson is
being funky about money."

Umm... I've picked up a Carmen Electra Cd for $2 (too much) and only a few
dollars more in most Used/discount bins. Only fanatics are willing to pay more
than $5 for a horrible album. My point is that what's the royalties on $5 ?
...especially if it's under the CONtracts prince complained about where he only
made change per unit sold.

Or maybe Prince kept promising them that he'd settle up with them and never did
and they got tired of waiting for Prince to be an honest business man.

I've got no love for Levi or Tony, they were both dead weight pulling Prince
down.

I don't know the details of this suit, but in any situation where songwriters
have not received
royalties it takes years before they have firm grounds to file suit. Even in
circumstances when
songwriters have been paid, it takes a couple of years to receive the actual
royalty money.

It's not unreasonable for the process to only now hit the courts.

As for Levi, I hear it constantly on this newsgroup that the Lovesexy and SOTT
bands were Prince's finest configurations. Now, last time I checked Levi Seacer
Jr. was part of these bands. He played his part well and be sure to check out
his contributions to the Sounds of Blackness.

Now, for another matter, isn't all this noise about Tony M. and Levi suing O(+>
out of a gossip columnist? Tread lightly people.

I don't know, I believe all of the music Tony M is complaining about was under
the Paisley Park label. As for Levi I'd say most of the music at issue was
under PP as well.

Actually I am willing 2 bet that the carmen cd did better than
apollonia...maybe anyway. I mean they did do major advertising for carmen's cd
and she did do some stuff on mtv 2 promote it, I think the smartest thing P
could do though is re release it. Since carmen's career has taken off and all.

1. I don't think he can rerelease it, since it belongs to WB.
2. Outside of Prince fans buying it, it's probably her post-Prince career
that's sold her the most albums, and has very little to do with the major
advertising and MTV exposure. At the time, she was nobody .... and don't
forget, in half those ads they ran for her, they didn't even bother to
mention her name ... ANYWHERE.

yes but in the end she probably sold more because of her post career...so it
doesn't matter why she sold more, just that she sold more

I can groove to some of the tracks on Carmen's CD. But, it is the only thing

For years and years we, the public, have heard the stories of Prince using and
hurting fellow musicians. Anyone who entered into an agreement after the demise
of the Revolution and Vanity were walking into the situation with full
knowledge of the situation. I'm sure Prince used them and I'm sure he owes them
some money but I do not feel sorry for them.
