Now, here's the hardest part, rewriting the shifting terms. Please
describe the following: (***Please be honest, if you're not sure,
don't answer it at all, if you can only post the obvious, leave that
blank as well). I've added some helpers for shifts that aren't
usually heard of, or talked about. If you have any questions, email
me, or read the original FAQ pages. Remember, I don't want you to
define them, I want you to try to describe them as well.

I'd say that a shadow shift is a powerful illusion where the shifter appears
to have become partially or fully an animal, but has not actually physically
shifted. Perhaps a prelude to a physical shift?

Shifting towards taking on an animals patterns of thought, of reaction to

In my mind this, Astral shift, and Aural shift are variations on the same
root, just in different time scales and places. Spirit shifting is a much
more gradual shift (weeks/months) in where a person's spiritual form (their
inner self) merges with an animal image. It changes a person's self
image. An example of this can be when a person looks in the mirror and is
surprised (and dissapointed) that the reflection doesn't have fur and a
muzzle. Having a different spiritual shape than your physical from can
lead to interesting feelings such as phantom feelings from a limb that you
don't have. (Have talked to people feeling phantom feelings of wings) An
example of this from my own life is a costume tail that I wear
occasionally. After a few hours the tail becomes enough a part of my self
image that there is almost a physical pain when I take it off and for
minutes afterwards I feel as if it still there. (My own self image is that
of an bipedal coyote and it is strong enough that I can relax slightly and
"mentally feel" as if I have a coyotes ears, muzzle, tail, teeth, and
claws).

This is closely relate to Spiritual shifting in that a person's inner image
is going to control their "default" form in the Astral (from what I have
read). If a person has spiritually shifted, that default astral from will
likely reflect it. Additionally Astral shifting relates to Aura shifting
in that a person has some control over their mental shape (especially in
Astral space). If a person has the ability to Aura shift then they will
likely have control over their Astral shape as well.

Aura is not really the correct term IMO. You are not really shifting your
Aura (which would be changing colors), you are shifting the shape of your
spirit in realtime. This may be better termed "spirit shifting" and what
is now termed spirit shifting be retermed to "soul shifting". (All IMO).
This type of shifting is the real time shifting of your mental shape to
that of your animal self and is often closely tied to mental and attribute
shifting. This kind of shift is related more to "feeling" like an animal
and maybe hearing and smelling more acutely then to entering an animals
thought patterns. You may feel as if you have fur and other animal
features.

A lot of things are possible in dreams that aren't in real life. This is
also a prime place for your animal guide or animal spirit to send you
strong clues if you haven't realized your true nature. Long before I
realized that I was a were I had a couple of dreams in which I was able to
shapeshift. These dreams, unlike most of them, stuck with me and were not
forgotten. When I started to realize what I was they became a clear
message that something had been going on for a long time and I wasn't just
"going nuts".
> 7. Physical Shift
This is the ability to shift either the whole physical body or even just
part of it to that of an animal. There have been many rumors and are a lot
of old fairytales, but we have yet to see anything concrete as to whether
this is really possible or not. There are a number of methods of physical
shifting from the currently being researched surgical aspects to the realms
of magic and energy work. My own beleif (and all I have are a few dreams
and a couple of real life tries to back it up) is that physical shifting is
something energy/magic based, takes only an instant (the time it takes to
hit the ground running after a leap), and that there is not NEARLY enough
free energy floating around to do it without a lot of help/prep work. I
would like to try out some experiments with either a large drum circle or a
lot of people concentrating on one person, but will have to see if ever an
opportunity comes about.
> 8. Shadow Shift (appearence only?)
This is probably closer into the realms of shamanism and/or psychic
abilities than wereness, though it may be tied into a were who can do
both. This would be the ability to let others see you as if you were an
animal. There are a number of stories from fairly good sources that some
of the shamanic cultures can do this, most often done in "animal dances"
where a shaman very strongly mentally shifts into an animal during ritual.
> 9. Relocation Shift (sometimes called the Bilocation shift)
This is the ability to seperate your spirit from your body and have it take
physical shape. There are stories from Northern Europe of warriors who
could do this. Their body would lie as if dead while a great beast (such
as a bear) would fight savagely on the feild of battle.

This is the ability to take over control of an animal and use it to carry
your spirit around. It has a lot of negative connotations, especially with
some of the Southwest Indian tribes.

This is often related into Aura shifting. As your spiritual form shifts to
that of an animal, your senses (or your attention to your senses) enhance
as well. This can be related to spiritual shifting as well. As your self
image changes part of the animal become part of you as well and become
yours to draw on or to have to suppress. (A bears temper for example).

In Scandinavian (Norse) lore, your appearance is called your Seeming. Most
of the time when you change shape, you simply change your seeming. =)
(I never know whether to call is Norse, Northern, Germannic, Scandian, or
Asatru lore... =b)

It's possible to change the shape of your aura--the biomagnetic field around
your body--from its normal slightly oval shape into the shape of an animal. So
perhaps a new term needs to be created. Just leave spirit shifting as it is,
and aura shifting as it is--and add soul shifting (which would be changing the
shape of your soul to look like an animal?).

Auras sometimes communicate to me the same way that a person or were's
body language would.
When I see the auras, I get a strange feeling, as if my body is not
quite centred in my physical self.
Does anyone else get these types of feeling.
The world has some sort of sheen.
I had thought I was always shifted, but now, I am beginning to wonder.

I think it's due to the brain not being used to being able to extend sensory
awareness in that fashion...it's like you put your eyes on stalks and stretched
them out to look at something, or reached out to touch something like rubber
man. The more you do it, the more you are aware of the location of your
"center". You can send your consciousness completely out of your body, if you
want to.
