Emmy will go host-less for its golden anniversary.

NBC and Emmycast exec producer Don Mischer have opted against naming a host for
this year’s 50th anniversary kudofest, which will be broadcast live by the
Peacock on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Celebrity presenters will instead serve to move the show along, sources said.

Mischer and NBC had preliminary conversations with what one source described as
“four-star”-level talents about taking the host gig, but none of the candidates
panned out.

The 1998 Emmycast, which will originate from the Shrine Auditorium, is
expanding to four hours — up from the usual three — in part to accommodate a
number of 50th anniversary tributes. NBC also plans to incorporate pre-show
arrivals and backstage interviews into this year’s show.

Nominations for the 50th Annual Emmy Awards will be announced Thursday.

They're doing away with the host but making the show longer? A good host makes
all the difference - I love Billy Crystal on the Oscars.
