I finally got a bit of time to play last night, and logged in to find
that I'd camped in Field of Bone, not exactly an exciting place at 46,
but only about 30 seconds away from the ent to Kaesora. I figured I
should at least check out Kaesora, have had some good times crawling
through there with my guild, and you never know where you might find a
good pick-up group.
I entered the dungeon and was immediately attacked by some nasty
spider. I didn't really have all of my good songs up, didn't have
snare up, and selos doesn't work indoors, but I did have a drum
equiped and three stacking DoTs, so I figured I'd give it a try and
zone if it got bad.
I was 1 bubble down from his sneaky attack, but was doing my best to
stay out of range and still DoT him (once I get my DoTs stacked, I do
about 140hp/tick damage, which is only about 23hp/sec) and he was
doing his best to have some bard bits to chew on. I was slowly
gaining the upper-hand when he stunned me twice in a row and got some
nasty hits in on me. I decided that it would be much better to zone
and live, and headed the 5 steps to the zone line when he stunned me
again and I fell to the ground unconscious.
I was lying on the ground, out cold, my purple bar dropping rapidly,
when my DoTs killed the 8-legged bastard. I was quite excited, but
still out cold and dropping rapidly toward death. As I got down below
1 purple bubble, I healed a bit, enough that one more round of natural
regen revived me enough to stand up, break out the lute, and start
singing my heal song as if my very life depended on it (come to think
of, it did).
Of course as soon as I was healed I took a wrong turn, fell into a pit
full of nasty spiders which killed me in about 5 seconds and led to an
hour of CR, a second corpse, and an enormous debt to a cleric who
happened to zone in at exactly the right time. (Thank Bristlebane
that I'd helped this cleric several times in the past.)

Not nearly as exciting at lower levels, but I had one go that close in
Upper Guk this week. Large Heart Spider, and I was playing with my usual
partner. I finally beat it down to where it was going to run but it
poisoned me with the last shot. I cleverly ran out of casting range of the
shaman who was making a good faith attempt to cure me of the poison in
question. By the time I killed it, I knelt over it to loot it, and
promptly fell to the ground with my purple bar falling. That was the point
at which the shaman finally caught up and cast enough heals on me to get
me upright and then cured the poison. It would have been an embarrasingly
Stupid Death Trick had I gone down on that one.

Paladin fighting skelly of some sort, don't recall more details than....

You begin casting a spell
A whateverskelly hits you for xx
You are knocked unconscious
You are conscious
You regain concentration
A whateverskelly staggers
You have slain a whateverskelly

The timing on that regen tick had to be just perfect to kick in and
stand me up in time to finish that spell. I've had more than one
character who won a fight and lived because of damage shields finishing
a mob while the char was unconscious, but channeling a cast through
falling down beats that in my mind <G>.

"You are knocked unconscious."
"You have slain a whatsisspider."
"The poison has run its course."
"You are bleeding to death."
"You regain consciousness." / "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT."

I've had more than one fight that ended either way. Crags in EK, I think it
was.

(You said "close", you didn't say successful)

Was in East Commons
Fought a lion
Poisoned lion
Lion kicked my ass...
Was unconscious...
Lion kept missing me...
He hit me good...once, my health went to just about nothing
I was goingt to die. A few Hitpoints of damage and croak.
I was cursing the computer to no end.
Then lion dropped over dead from poison.
I lay there.
It took a good long time before I regained consciousness.
I was happy
Yeah....
That's my story

Killed 3 alligators in cazic thule while unconscious because my pet was
still fighting and we were both fireshielded. It took me about 30 seconds
before I stood back up from being unconscious. I gated as soon as I stood
up and logged, enough excitement for that night. :)

On another occasion I was strafe-running away from something and got knocked
unconscious and my body _slid_ through the zoneline. Come to think of it,
that was Cazic Thule too. I love that zone. :)

I did "recover concentration" on a gate out of Permafrost _while_ I was
unconscious. I thought I had made it. I didn't.

I have 2 close call tails first 1 I was fighting in Rathe as myWizard kiting
a Cyclops and was in trouble when 2nd Cyclops joined the
party so I cast my gate spell. I was knocked unconscious, while waiting for
the final death blow to come I gated. I ended up in GF still unconscious
with 18 hps left. My next yarn was in FV where I kinda expolted a bug I was
sitting onthe bridge out of mana and healing up from a battle with the
spiders. When a giant leeach attack me I was killed pretty quick and low and
behold instantly ported to my bind point the end of the bridge in full gear
full mana and life sheilds still active. I started nukeing and killed the
leeach to this day have no idea what happened.

I once in EC at a young level was soloing a white lion, Im a necro, when
suddenly 4 of his buddies of both male and female variety attacked! I was so
scared and started running. i decided to meet my fate when I realized I had
gate ready. I thought about how slim the chances were but, I might as well
try.

You began your casting.
Your casting has been interrupted
You begin your casting.
A lion slashes you for xx damage.
You are knocked unconcious.
A lion misses
A lioness misses
A lion misses
You regain conciousness
You regain your concentration.
Loading...Please wait.
You have entered West Freeport
You have ben knocked unconcious

Yes.. I was pleased. Scared the bejesus outta me to. Al ag issue must have
let the lion get a hit on me mid zone, strange, but I survived!

Well...you can't get much more close than both dying at the same time. I
had my ds up and was in runneyeye. A gobbie killed me, but as I was falling
I saw that the ds also killed him in the same hit.

16 Dwarf warrior, having given it his all during a battle in Befallen, Now
making a "strategic retreat" from various undead forces. Hit, stunned,
recovered, continue retreat. That zone wall is so close I can taste the air
of the common lands on the other side. Practically on the zone. I fall
unconcious, I recover, Just before i hit the zone wall my life actually read
ZERO (perhaps). I zone. I recover on the other side with ONE life. Talk
about lucky. specially considering death would have been a level lost.

My closest brush with death (where I lived) was out in North Karana. I was
hunting beetles when a Griffawn decided I'd make a nice snack. So I head
off to the Guard tower Strafe-Running. I don't think I'm going to make it,
so I hit Feign Death. However when I hit the ground I kept sliding (I guess
there is a bug in the strafe code). I "slid" right to the guard which
dispatched the Griffawn.

I calmly stood up, dusted myself off, and offered a short prayer to
Quellious for my survival.

You will not evade me, TwoHead <t...@omarworld.com>:

Damn, you were lucky :)

Proof of the greatness of damage shields and of how weird EQ combat
chain of events can be:

a shriveled mummy was hit by non-melee for 13 points of damage
a shriveled mummy was pierced by thorns.
You have slain a shriveled mummy!
You gain experience!
You are stunned!
a shriveled mu bashes YOU for 3 points of damage
a shriveled mu's corpse2 tries to cast a spell on you, but you are
protected.
You are unstunned.

A friend was ROFLing when a guildmate of his got knocked unconscious
fighting a guard somewhere like Tox, but won with a DOT, and then,
before they healed enough to get back up, some newbie mob came up and
started whacking them. It was doing just enough damage to keep them
unconscious, but not enough to kill them. It was late at night, and no
one else was in the zone. The poor person spent something like 30
minutes pleading with guildmates to find someone to TP over and kill the
damn thing.

Yeah that would suck pretty bad.
You stand up after the mob is finally killed and see a crowd watching you
laughing.
Then do a /who and see that 500 people are in the zone.
