I play in Paw a lot. I spent a lot of time there with my warrior
character. And now am spending a lot of time there with my newer
shaman. It is a really good dungeon. At level 11-13 some of the gnolls
at the begining will attack you. It gets better when at 14-17 only the
higher gnolls attack while rest ignore. At 19 with my warrior I camped
the four noble room (no one else in paw) for a long time and solo them
all for loot. It is usually not crowded on my server. 0-20 at any time.
Great loot. There is a room with four nobles (who carry snakeskin(4-5pp
each peice to a player)) that a lower party can do well in. And 3 high
shaman spawns where Runed Totem staves can be had. Woohoo. There is
also a gnoll necromancer upstairs too. And a tough Dark Elf necromancer
downstairs. One of the necromancers has the Crysnife (magic dagger) but
I dont know which, never got it off the gnoll one so I guess it's Nixx.

Anyway the gnoll spawns are no problem. But sometimes someone trys to
take down Nixx, the toughest creature in Paw. I dunno what level he is.
And it's not a pretty sight when they fail. I dont think it is easy to
start a Nixx rampage. From what I hear there is a specific sequence of
steps required to make nixx spawn. There is an area in Paw the is
accessable only though a not to visible underwater passage, near where
Ren Rex the High Shaman spawns. Swiming though there brings you to nice
little underwater area that is like a goldmine sometimes. I leave there
with 4-8 peices of Snakeskin sometimes. Spirit Pouch Rules! In one area
down here there are giant snakes. In another there are four nobles and
a switch on the wall. I think I read that if you pull the switch while
there is a High Shaman in the other room (ever notice the trap? blades
by the entrance? what triggers it?) then a named gnoll Dagnor Splitpaw
or something. And then if you kill this gnoll Nixx appears. Dunno!?

Today we killed Dagnor not trying to get Nixx. Just because he attacked
us. Nixx appeared and killed us all. He is tough! Later on I came back,
hoping he had gone back to his hole or been slaughterd. Soon after
entering and grouping with an Enchanter Nixx's pet skelleton started
attacking the enchanters pet near the entrance. I had time to
spam "RUN!" twice before my screen froze. I turned towards my new
friend and started crushing (Nixx had charmed me) him with my Runed
Totem Staff as he ran for the exit. I chased him (and with Nixx on my
tail, everyone else) to the zone and turned around and ran back to my
new master, Nixx. I ran to the waterfall bridge and found him chasing
down a gnoll. I crushed the gnoll in the back of the head with my staff
and he fell. Nixx turned on another. Hour after hour I fought for him.
We slaughtered every gnoll we saw. When finally I regained my mind I
was standing in front of Grenix's (gnoll necro) lair. I turned and ran
for the zone. Nix and his remaining pet hacking at my back the whole
way. I zoned, with little health, to find my Enchanter partner safe
outside. Whew.

Went back later. Nixx's pet was just inside the zone. Green. I killed
it. GOOD faction with lots of things. Then Nixx killed me again.

I don't usually get as much loot at Paw when Nixx appears, or is set
free by some brave fool, but this time at least I had an amazing time
but I was so shocked by the whole thing I forgot to take screenshots. I
was just frozen with my jaw on the floor and my hands scrambling at the
back arrow hoping for a chance to run. But I did make a few pp.

My wife and I were wiping the floor with the nobles and shamans in
that hidden lair. We went at it for about an hour and were just
getting ready to leave (only 2 snakeskin pieces, both gloves) when the
named noble appeared. Heck he jumped us and we grinned to each other
and the party started.

The bad part was that he appeared when I was at half mana. We started
whacking on him and got him down quite a bit and as he turned to run,
both rooms of nobles (which had respawned during the extended fight)
jumped in. Well now we had ourselves a mess. We were determined and
eventually got the bastard and looted him as she died. I went down
shortly after that after getting through the underwater passage. I
knew I wasn't going to make it so I just sat down in the hall and
waited for death. Also I didn't want to train the lower level
characters up top. I just wanted my body somewhere that I could
recover from easily before going back in there. Nothing is worse than
dying in a confined space where the mobs stand over your corpse. But
we were both ok with it as we had killed him and gotten the loot
(which was nothing but a few coins).

Well I headed back in. I looted up and sat to memorize and med. My
wife was almost back from Qeynos using her bard speed song. I jumped
into the water to go and check out the room. As I came up, who is
there to greet me but the nasty dark elf necro. I fled back out the
water tunnle and ran for my life. I took a lot of damage but managed
to lose him by falling off of a bridge (ahem. yeah, I meant to do
that. heh heh). I cast a few heals on myself and gated back out to
the entrance before he could track me down.

A party went in and we all helped kill him.

The morals of the story are:

1) You don't need to press any switch to get the named dark elf. He
just comes. May be tied to killing the named NPC in the underwater
cavern.

2) Bards should keep an extra drum in the bank. Makes getting back to
your body much faster.

3) Bards should keep a flute in the bank. So they can be invis to
drag their corpses away from the bad guys.

Hmm I spent couple weeks in PAW and never saw Nixx or Dagnor.

I'm aware of where Rex spawns, also seen Phido Shaman spawn at the same
spot. Next to them 3 commanders and 2 little shamans. Where is this Nixx
and Dagnor place. The underwater tunnel, is that next to the 4 shamans
next to the Captain room?? I only spotted Rex, Phido, Captain, Gharnex,
and Lenrel. Would like to go back to PAW if there was more to what I saw.
It is a great hunting ground.

In article <Pine.GSO.4.10.99070...@typhoon.xnet.com>,
ani...@xnet.com says...

If you swim through the underwater tunnel, it's actually a small hole in
the shallow water on the lower level to the right of the bridges, up and
to the door to some rooms, and there is a small alcove to the left with
snakes, go through and kill everything in the rooms. Everything. Then
Nixx will usually spawn outside the door and wait for you. :)

It's been a long time since I was there, he was a dark elf I think with a
pet.

It's not just everything you have to kill. I've seen Nixx spawn once. It was
after we killed a named gnoll shaman. This was a pretty tough gnoll shaman.
Red to me at the time while ghanex was white. When the Shaman died he said:
"You'll never have my eye". So we go back out by the water to recoup when
Nixx pops in and says he wants the eye. I did not get to loot the gnoll
shaman and the guy that did was not really bright enough to make the
connection. But it seemed to me that Nixx was actually after a rare spawning
item that was aon a rare spawning npc.

I've cleaned these rooms out several times since with no Zixx Nixx
appearance.
