I've seen both (I think there are only two?) Ships again and no corpse.
Have I missed another ship and is it still going around and around?
Can I get my corpse back? Am I sunk?

Bad news is that ship captains before a burial at sea before zoning out
of the ocean so your corpse is at the bottom next to the zone line. You
can either take the ship and jump off near the zone line and swim for it
or try petitioning if you can't get help for that CR because as a lvl 17
pally I dunno if you'll have the swim skill to get to corpse without
drowning. If they haven't changed it CS staff used to help with this.

You're sunk. Literally. No, really, check the bottom of the sea right
where the boat zones out....

Ask someone to cast a spell that allows you to breath under water before
you try that, or ask your local friendly Iksar to drag your corpse to
safety for you.

Well, no luck finding a Necro and no GMs online this morning. So, shall
I carry the character on, showing determination, or just start another?
I favour carrying on, just because I refuse to be defeated. But the

At least it won't happen again - the cat will be legless soon ;)

What server are you on?
My necro is in OOT on Antonius Bayle if that helps at all.
He is on AB. I've also said via email that I'll help him get his corpse
too so now he has two options...
Best advice to the original poster is to consider joining a good guild.
Generally someone in a guild will drop what they are doing and go
help you out when things like this happen.
And also to say that petition probably would work eventually. I recently
fell in
the chasm in karana just out of HHK due to an enormous amount of lag.
And couldn't get to my corpse or even see it. And I'm level 36 so I couldn't
use the
summon corpse spell I've got to find it.
They answered my petition and got my corpse back although it took about
4 hours for them to get to me.
Nobody drowns in EQ unless you go too deep or leave the keyboard. No
matter how bad your swim skill is. At level 17 you can get your skill up
to around 85 which should be fine. I'd suggest, if you are going to get
it yourself, that you just go swim around in a safe area until you max
it out, then ride the boat to near the zone, jump off, swim after the
boat until you hit the zone line and dive. You'll find it. I've swum all
over OoT and you'll be surprised at how shallow the water is. Just make
sure you have a /corpse hotkey set up.
An easier method, of course, is to purchase a coffin and ask a friendly
necro to summon it to dry land for you.
--
"Would you care for a sammich?"
You will not die just swimming to the corpse and you can loot it even with a
bad swim skill (just pay very close attention to the air remaining for your
char). It's best to find a friend who will sow you and levitate you once
you know where the corpse is, or, even easier, get a friendly necro to
summon the corpse (the coffin costs about 2pp at any bag vendor).
I've just had an offer from a friendly necro to sort me out :)

What server are you one? I'm sure that you can find someone to help you,
either through this newsgroup, or just by sounding pitiful in the zone you
died in.

I have had to do this before. Here is how I did it. Buy a chipped bone
rod. This has 3 charges of Locate Corpse. Ride the boat to near the zone
out. Hop off, use one charge of locate corpse. Swim in the direction it
turns you to until you hit the zone line. Swim down, your corpse should be
there. Loot it, keeping an eye on your breath remaining.
Alternatively, what server do you play on? If E Marr, I'd be glad to help
you if we can be on at the same time. If on another server, there is likely
someone here that would be willing to help if feasible.
I have, through here. I was saving pitiful as a last resort!

Malcolm
I think it was proven that how long you can hold your breath is
determined entirely by STA not by swim skill. And I've swum for
ages with my sta down around 0 and not gone "Glub Glub Glub" :)
I'd definitely do a /who bard and see if there's one who might
grab it for you.
And there's always the Enduring Breath line of spells .... :-)
Crash
Except for Iksar. They always last as long as anyone else does with Max
Stamina. All other races tested Stamina does change how long you last
before you drown. So, get the friendly Iksar, he has 130 seconds before he
starts to drown, regardless of his stamina.

He might not be able to swim down and loot without drowning, but he should
be able to drag it OK. If there is a vertical limit on /corpse, it is
larger than the depth of the ocean.
Here's what I would try:
1. Make a "/corpse" hotkey.
2. Get on the boat, and target yourself.
3. As the boat gets near the zone, start hitting your /corpse hotkey.
4. As soon as you see the message that you've summoned the corpse,
instead of the message that it is too far away, jump off the boat, and
hit your /corpse key again, to make sure the corpse is still with you,
and not on the boat again.
5. Try typing /loot, or whatever the command is to start looting, and
see if that works. If it does, you might be able to loot while slowly
sinking, and get everything before you start to drown.
6. If /loot doesn't work, you can just swim on the surface to the
nearest island, using /corpse frequently as you go to drag the corpse to
the island.

It's done. It took me ages to find a coffin though, but they do only cost
1pp for the level 12 spell now. They used to be much more.
Right you are, I forgot they had that advantage.

The vertical limit really isn't that far, unless they changed it. A few
months ago in Dalnir, we were unable to /corpse a corpse up the wells
without floating someone down to halfway to get it halfway there.
[56 Beguiler] Zinphandel Chianti <Ethereal Requiem> (Gnome) Ayonae Ro
How deep are those wells? The deepest I've dragged is in Lake Rathe. I was
killed in the Goblin tower in one of the tunnels under the lake, and was
able to drag the corpse while swimming on the surface.
It's also possible that the distance limit depends on the zone. I think
dungeons may do more Z checking than non-dungeons.

Doesn't suff come of if you wash it with pixie dust?
Really not sure... I know you can see mobs walk by under them, though, so
it's shorter than minimum clipping plane. :)

Hmm, that seems highly likey.
Yep, it rarely fails. :)
I have to admit to having used it a few times, I do ask in guild first

sounds pitiful, so it balances out.
Not a problem, and happy hunting. I've only had to deal with dying on a

Heh. I will second the Paludal recomendation, my enchanter is still
happilly leveling there at 22.
Swim speed is determined by skill. The amount of time you can hold
your breath being constant, a variance of swim skill makes all the
difference in being able to reach the bottom and return on one breath.

The length of time that you hold your breath is not constant, it is based on
your stamina score. Not current stamina as in yellow bar, but your
numerical stamina value in your character stats.
I forget who exactly did the tests, but it was timed and the results were
posted to the newsgroup.
hehe, this is fun.... For the given character in the case in question,
stamina is a constant, unless between going under the surface of the
water and returning to the surface he equips +sta equipment or receives
a +sta buff. Assuming a static amount of stamina a variance in the swim
skill will indeed be a factor as to how deep underwater he can retrieve
his corpse without drowning.
th
Much like strafing (which speed is independent of your running
speed) vertical velocity doesn't see to be dependent on your
forward velocity. This from observation of taking a level 1
rogue into the Hole many times.
Jazz did. And you are correct, except for Iksars. They always get a
constant amount of time before they drown, regardless of Stamina.

Credit where credit is due, Dan helped out with a portion of those tests
too. It was fun. But yes, we had the right combination of characters
available to test both factors independently of each other on everything
but the Iksar. Swim skill determines your speed, and *marginally* your
maneuverability at very high levels. Stamina, and stamina alone
determines how long you can hold your breath before you begin to drown
unless you are an Iksar. They can hold their breath an insanely long
time right from level one and barebones stats. Was unable to test
if/when it increased for them as they were geared up better with higher
STA and such.

"Would you care for a sammich?"
The coffin costs 2pp? when did this change? Last time my necro had to buy a
coffin they were still 175pp This was in Neriak, is there a place to buy
them cheaper? Would love to know where, save me alot of cash
The coffins for lesser summon corpse, the low-level summon corpse of
someone under level 35 spell, cost 2pp. Otherwise, it's business as
usual.
There are three different coffins.
For Necros:
At level 12, lesser summon corpse uses the cheap stackable coffins, only
summons corpses of players up to level 34?
At level 39, Summon Corpse uses the expensive, nonstackable coffins.
At level 57, Conjure Corpse uses the less expensive stackable coffins.
(About half the price of the nonstackable ones)
For SKs:
At level 25, Lesser Summon Corpse.
At level 51, Summon Corpse.
They don't get Conjure Corpse.
