I love it. The only gripe I have is wandering around for hours unable to
find my way around. I do like discovering things but once I run past a
certain spot for the tenth time I start calling Brad bad names. A simple
automap or even just a compass heading would make things much less
aggravating

Work on your "Sense Heading" skill. That way you'll be able to tell what
direction you're heading.

You can buy compasses in the game. They cost a few platinum pieces. You
can also pay attention in game, and notice that the sun rises in the east,
and sets in the west, and the moon follows a south to north track... or that
the clouds always move directly from east to west. For that matter, in
beta, you can just plain use /loc (without having anything targeted), and
SEE what direction you're facing. (Note that heading in /loc data is 0-512,
not 0-360. 0 is north.

Some classes/races also have the 'sense direction' skill.

Whoops, *kicks self in the ass*, I read that skill as sense hiding. Thanks
for pointing that one out.

"One can only be lost in thought if it's unfamiliar territory." Just
thought that little quote needed to be said SOMEWHERE and the necromancers'
guild in Neriak didn't seem like a good place.

Wait until you die with lots of goodies on you and run around for hours
trying to find it. I'll miss /loc when they take it out. For those that
don't know what /loc is (not sure if it has been taken out yet) target
yourself and type /loc it will give you XYZ coordinates. Very handy when
looking for you corpse (IF you type it before you die :)

FYI, there is a bard song which will do this. Just make nice with a
Bard.

When getting lost, your best means of finding your corpse is to ASK a
necromancer or a bard. they may be able to help you locate your corpse.

Later.

Bards on the other hand are experts at finding corpses. I can't
recall the countless times in the past week that I've had to find
my own corpse, or the corpses of others, and apart from a small
glitch in the spell (already reported it) it works perfectly.

They're going to take /loc out??? Groan... I will never find my corpse
when that happens. They should sell a beeper you can keep on your body
that will help you locate it later.

Try finding a bard with the corpse location song or one of those bone
rattlers (necromancers).

I've never used /loc and won't miss it.

They do.

For the low low price of only 15 plat (give or take) you can buy a
"chipped bone rod" which will lead you directly to your corpse. Or at
least it's supposed to. I've never seen one in action.

For three gold, a bard can buy the level four song of "locate corpse".
(leyna's locater or whatever) Slightly more affordable. I usually
charge a gold to find someone's corpse.

15 Plat??? Where? I'll buy a zillion! I've seen 'em for sale, for the
bargain price of around 8000 plat.

*gasp*choke*cough* 8000P! *wheeze* Tell me you're kidding. I've

Heh. That was pretty much *my* reaction. I'm not 100% sure of the price, but
it was definitely triple-digit, in the 5-8K range. I think it was Merchant
Wendi in the Qeynos Wizards guild.

Come to think of it, I think I was the same item for sale in P3 at one
point, and it was even *more* expensive, like by a factor of 10 or so...

Actually, I saw a Chipped bone rod on a vendor, last night. Think it was
actually 6500 pp, or something like. Anyway, they're utterly unpurchasable
from vendors, pricewise.

At that price, could a good thief procure a few, and then
sell it back to them? :)
