Can't make patchwork masks, bracers, shoulderpads, or belts. Can
make patchwork versions of everything else, though.
>Is Patchwork and Tattered the same thing???
Yep.
>Why is it so hard to find pelts? Either on critters or in shops?
The Gods of Norrath have made it that way.
>Does the word TRIVIAL mean that you can't fail at the skill?
No. This is an example of poor phrasing on the part of Verant.
"Trivial" means "You can't increase your skill by making this item." Most
people feel that you shouldn't be able to fail at making something that's
trivial to make, and I tend to agree. Instead of saying "This item is
trivial to make for someone of your skill," the message should say "You can
no longer learn any more about this skill from the item you're attempting
to make." This would convey the true meaning of what they're trying to
achieve without getting people pissed off.

Nope. There are no patters for masks, capes, bracers, or belts. This is
apparently so newbies don't get complete sets of patchwork right off the bat
because Verant believes it would be "unbalancing". Umm... right.
Of course tailoring is yet another dead end trade skill. It is no longer
worth the time investment to make patchwork by time you hit level 7 or so,
and after patchwork it is just too expensive and difficult to work the skill
any more.

Anyway, in response to the subject, I've never seen patterns for
bracers, masks, belts, shoulderpads, etc. I think Verant should include
patterns for them though, for two gold, and have the pads sell for 2
platinum or so. I haven't made patchwork since level nine (everytihng is
trivial anyway), so I forget how much a tunic sells for. If it does sell
for 1 Platinum, then yes, make the pads sell for 2PP and the pattern
sell for 2GP. We tailors need more things to make- and what about small
amounts of experience? Why does this game have to be all hack'n'slash?
What about merchant RPing?

Umm... yeah. Do I know you? From NWN? From LoK? Ah, the price of fame! <G>

All pieces of patchwork sell for a gold and change to vendors. 2gp per piece
is the standard rate for selling to players - although I would sell a
complete seven piece set for 1pp as a bulk discount. :)

In theory trade skills are being worked on to make them more useful in terms
of selling to other players. It would be nice if that became true. As it is
now most trade skills are nothing more than money pits. People who want a
trade skill to enhance their RP must pay for that privelage.
They don't exist. There are only 7 patterns for armor, the ones you listed.
No cloaks, shoulders, masks or belts. Which is funny because the book
on tailoring lists some of those items.

Yup.

Good question. The material for smithing banded armor is easily obtainable
at several shops. But the material for studded or reinforced leather armor
is rare and to top it off studded is worthless, it is the same ac as regular
leather.
> Does the word TRIVIAL mean that you can't fail at the skill?
Nope. It only means that you can't improve your skill by making
that item anymore. You have to make more difficult items to
improve your skill.
> Nogginn (halfling cleric)

Tailoring like many other trade skills is still broken.
Is Patchwork and Tattered the same thing???
Why is it so hard to find pelts? Either on critters or in shops?

Which is absurd, as the tailoring guide specifically mentions them.
>> Is Patchwork and Tattered the same thing???
>Yup.
Also somewhat bizarre. If I'm trying to sell patchwork, but one item
is called Tattered, that doesn't exactly instill confidence in a
newbie buyer. Nor is it cosistent. I'd like just a little more
consistency.
>> Why is it so hard to find pelts? Either on critters or in shops?
>Good question.
This is a case where I was lucky, at least with ruined pelts. I didn't
even try tailoring until I was 14th level, so getting pelts directly
or buying the from stores was not a big problem. I even hired a cute
little 2nd level halfling warrior, and paid her two silver per ruined
wolf pelt. Nice arrangement, that.
>The material for smithing banded armor is easily obtainable

If it were merely rare, I could live with that. However, since the
studs and boning have to be made by a player smith, it's very hard to
get them. Studs are apparently very tedious to make, even more so
since they're not stackable, and smiths want 8 - 10 gold per stud. In
light of your next observation, that, well, blows!
>and to top it off studded is worthless, it is the same ac as regular

Good, it's not just me then - it really is that silly. So, what is the
blasted point of studded at all? If it were better than leather so I
could sell it to mid-level druids, that would be great, but who would
buy it when my minimum cost per piece is driven by the plat per stud?
I feel like studded ought to be one point better than leather across
the board, and reinforced another point above that, at least.
>Tailoring like many other trade skills is still broken.
I agree strongly!
In addition to AC, there seems to be an absorbtion factor to armor that
isn't shown. It's entirely possibly that studded leather has the same AC
(you get hit the same amount) but you'll take less damage from it.
Damask/Woven seems to be this way.

I've heard that as well, but it's a remarkably hard point to try to
prove when selling something with the same numbers as leather. The
buyer just isn't going to go for it.

No, those patterns aren't (currently) available. Only God (and Brad)
know why.
>Is Patchwork and Tattered the same thing???
Yes.
>Why is it so hard to find pelts? Either on critters or in shops?
It depends on the pelt. Ruined are hard because most people don't
bother selling them to the shops. Medium and High are hard because
they don't appear very often.
>Does the word TRIVIAL mean that you can't fail at the skill?
You WISH. Come to think of it, I wish so, too. Alas, Trivial means
that you won't learn anything any more from making them. For me, it
means that I still only succeed about 1 time in 4 or 5. This seems to
differ substantially from Fletching, where Trivial means you'll
succeed about 9 times in 10.
