You must be spending a lot of time running around or something. :) Up to level
six or seven, it's not to hard to go up almost a level an hour, just killing
whatever you can fight. The ravines outside Halas are pretty rich, with polar
bear cubs, decaying skeletons, gnoll pups, goblin whelps, and furry
spiderlings. (Watch out for the spiderlings and the gnolls and goblins.
They'll gang up on you. Especially the spiders, which are almost as common as
dirt.) As a nice bonus, you can get equipment like low level armor and weapons
from the gnolls and goblins, and I think the bear cubs occasionally drop quality
skins, which you can sell to vendors or other players. (Low and medium quality
skins are probably only good for the vendors, high quality skins should only
ever be sold to other players. The high skins are used to make tailored
backpacks, and sell for a good chunk of money for your level.) Of course, it's
possible that the bear cubs only drop polar bear skins. I can't remember for
sure, it's been ages since I hunted in that area.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Bank in Halas is straight across from the door that
leads to the raft on the lake. You buy most spells from the Shaman guild, which
is farther back from the main gate. Most of the spell vendors are inside the
building, and underground. You should be able to find them by wandering around
and looking for the "so and so casts a spell" messages. Unless players are
dueling in the arena, I'm pretty sure the Shamans are about the only people who
would be casting spells in Halas. If you can't find it, try asking another
player if they know where it is. The Shamans provide a good chunk of the quests
in Halas, so somebody should know where to find it. The spells are pretty
expensive at your level though, so be prepared. (At level 4, 15 gold is a lot
of money. :) Good luck.

Understandable...there is no sign on the Halas bank...this had me
confused when I first started also. If you stand by the pier looking
into the city, at the big "HALAS" sign, take the path in and to the
left, past the Priest of Discord, and the bank is the first building
there on the right.
>also how do I get a pet....shaman gets the wolf right?
It's a spell you cast. You have a long way to go though.
Unlike some other pet classes who can cast pets at level 1,
shamans don't get one until level 34.

hehe...well....I had no clue what was going on at the beginning.....it took
about an hour just to find out about the lake and going across it.....then I
probably died at least 50 times now.....like right now I don't have much
trouble killing the pandas...spiders...skeletons....except for those psycho
ones....but they like to gang up on me....by the time I figure I'm not going to
win....theres 5 of them on me...which I cannot outrun....still a fun game...its
been a very very long time since I've played a game this long time since I
played a game for so long ...hehe
Now is there a way I can change which city to go to...such as if I wanted to go
to Freeport...or would I have to start a whole new character? ok...well I
posted again...I'm having some problems...

There is no such word where "z" is added to the end to mean more than one.
That said, check out www.eqatlas.com for a map of Halas and surrounding
areas. http://everquest.allakhazam.com has links to other maps as well.
You buy your spells at the shaman guild.
One of your guild leaders has a quest to collect fungus from
spiderlings. If you complete it, he gives you a spell (and some money
I think). It is very easy to collect the 8 fungus.
Turn in polar bear skins to Cindl in Mac's Kilts for armor and 1 gold.
Buy a sewing kit. Put 2 spiderling silks in it to make a thread. Put
2 threads to make a bandage. Once your skill is around 20, you can
buy patterns and use ruined bear pelts to make patchwork armor. Cindl
may not give you the pieces you need.

Heheh, yeah, those of us who have been playing for a while forget how hard
it is to initialy acclimate yourself to the environment. Easy to forget,
especially when you are used to getting your newbie characters up to level 5
in an hour or less. :)

Really, it becomes a doll dress up game, a fashion show. Getting the money,
by killing things, is a bore, but you do it because you want to buy cool
stuff for your character.
Oh well, I have to go kill more orcs, that Dragoon Dirk set me back 70 plat.
The "wow" factor comes into play when you go visit a new area or see a new
mob. You couldn't have seen everything in one month.
You paid 70p for a Dragoon Dirk?!?!?
ouch...did they kiss you first?

When I posted, I knew SOMEONE would say that. If I had said I paid 10
copper for the dirk, someone would have posted "What? You paid 10 copper for
a Dragoon Dirk!?!?! I traded a fire beetle eye and 2 fishing grubs for
mine!"

Depending n the server, it might not be completely out of line.
...and no, if you posted that you paid 10c for it I would have said I want
you to do the purchasing of all my items because you are very astute.

/agree. For servers where you never could get 10135124512451 of
them by whacking D'Vinn that many times, DDirks are much rarer.
And they are an excellent low to mid level weapon.

Before you buy.
Hehe...sounds like one of my first tries. He did make it out to Qeynos
Hills finally...at night during one of the Qeynos Hills undead
invasions.
