I have a Soundblaster PCI-128 as well and the footsteps are not only
loud, but have this annoying trailing sound attached to them. For
example, if footsteps before sounded like clop...clop...clop, they now
sound like CLOPcrack...CLOPcrack...CLOPcrack, just as if I'm walking on
top of a corrugated metal roof or something.
Oh, and did anyone notice ANY change in their spell icons? I'm a level
31 druid and have all the spells except for one of the halo-of-light
spells, and not a single one of my spell icons is different. My wife's
shaman has just about all the shaman spells up to level 29 (might be
missing two or three) and she's not noticed any changes in her spell
icons either.
I tried to do the Tumpy/Grofflah quest last night just to see how bad
the exp had been nerfed and at level 31 I got a very negligible amount
of experience (arguably, none, though it continually told me I'd gotten
experience) from 100 tonics, though I did get all the faction
adjustments, and that alone made it worth it for me. A pair of level
19's doing the quest said they were still getting experience, but they
could not tell me how much (as regards to how much they would have
gotten before the patch) because this was the first time they were
trying it. Pre-patch (but post Tumpy's "vacation") I had received a bit
over half a bubble of experience at level 28 from 100 tonics.

so I regularly use.
The footsteps are unbelievably annoying. They even occur with a DMF on, and
over water. Yargh!
