Doesn't really matter unless you buy it before you get ensnare. TW is a
useless druid spell (somewhat useful for rangers with no druids doing snare
duty) after that.

When you get ensnare you can dump TW. Casting time is the same (1.8 I
believe) and ensnare lasts 11 minutes.

Since snare is a fixed duration spell, there's no reason that it
should run out before you can recast it. Since my ranger got it at 9,
I haven't had a snare break before I could recast it.
Tangling Weeds is a totally useless spell.

TW casts much faster than snare...and that makes a difference if you're
being beat on. It's not TOTALLY useless, though it IS close ;)

Casting time on my copy says 0.5 seconds, so yeah, it's useful
somewhat.
Besides, at level 29 which do you think you'll channel? A level 29
ensnare or a level 1 tangleweed?

I was wrong on my previous post. Casting time according to
http://eq.castersrealm.com is 2 seconds, not 1.8 as I originally said.
Snare is 2.25 seconds, TW 2.00 seconds. Although that quarter second CAN
make a difference, it's not something I'd call "near instant cast time." <g>
Good news, in 3 levels you'll be getting one that sticks even before you
cast it (joke), Ensnare! Casting time is 1.75 seconds and lasts 10 minutes.
Could be they're wrong, but when I looked at the spell (my druid memmed it)
shortly after Luclin came out, I'm pretty sure the spell said the casting
time was 1.8. I also thought ensnare was 1.8 but it's been so long since
I've specifically looked for that info that I could easily be mistaken.
My ranger shows casting time as 0.5 and can *almost* cast this spell on the
run it goes off so fast.

Ah, Verant must have realized the spell blows and bowed to that and made it
useable. Cool. :)
The cast time on Ensnare has never, ever been an issue for me. And I
remember when ensnare used to break at random like root.
Hell, if push comes to shove, I don't think that there is one normal
mob in the game that I couldn't channel ensnare through them beating
one me. I once managed getting ensnare off while getting beat on by
FOUR wyverns in CS.
