FIT THE SIXTH

Will the Ultimate Question to Life, the Universe and Everything (to
which the answer is forty two) be discovered?

Will out heroes be able to control their newly stolen spaceship and the
enormous fleet of black battle cruisers that is following them?

Will all end happily or in the certain death that has threatened them so
persistently?

(yes, I imagine that will set up the suspense nicely. Time to get this
show on the road I suppose)

GRAMS - Narrator Background effects

....

[11] that is, brand new relative to the froup production. The actual age
of the scripts can only be determined by anyone familiar with
script-O-mathics, in which the time that the first draft was begun, the
final draft was completed, the first publication was made, and the time
that the reader (you) reads it - are only of tangential chronological
importance, or indeed, order.

[12] it is the cast who are in the closets[13]. The locations of the
scripts is neither disclosed, nor important.

[13] for some of the more advanced effects purposes only. For example,
the sound of a claustrophobic actor wimpering or screaming can best be
achieved by taking said actor, stuffing him or her into a small closet
and filling the remaining space with small cushions, electrical
equipment, and games that nobody in their right mind would want to play,
and then turning off all the lights. Some may call this cruel and
unusual, but those in the know know that it is in fact not unusual at
all, but rather; cruel and award-winning.

Sadly I have no script either. But being an audience member it seems
less important.

Usher! 'scusi, would you happen to know where my friends could find a
script- and perhaps a key for that closet so they could let their fellow
cast members out?

NARRATOR: (with some asperity after being pinged {_two_ turns!} in
advance of sequence, but given his general tone of mild annoyance, how
can you tell?)

The History of every major Galactic civilisation has gone through
three distinct and recognisable phases –those of survival, enquiry and
sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why and Where phases? For
instance the first phase is characterized {Sic! Does thus _very_ tall
juvenile Cantabrian think we speak American?} by the question ‘How can
we eat?’, the second by the question ‘Why do we eat?’ and the third by
the question{…} ‘Where shall we have lunch?”

The history of warfare is similarly subdivided, though here the phases
are Retribution, Anticipation and Diplomacy –Thus Retribution {sic:

killed my brother’, Anticipation: ‘I am going to kill you because
I killed your brother, and Diplomacy
{sic: Oxford Comma!} “I am going to kill my brother and then kill you
on the pretext that your brother did it’.

Meanwhile, the Earthman Arthur Dent, to whom all of this can only be
of academic interest as his only brother was long ago nibbled to death
by an okapi, is about to be plunged into a real intergalactic war.
This is largely because the spaceship he and his companions have
stolen from the Restaurant at the End of the Universe has now returned
itself to its rightful time and place. Its rightful time is
immediately prior to the invasion of an entire alien galaxy, {sic:
again!} and its rightful place is at the head of a fleet of one
hundred thousand black battle cruisers. This is why:

Edit-out the following notes prior to broadcast…

--NOTE TO PRODUCER--: Unless the schedule at BH or made-of-ale

FORD, ZAPHOD, THE FROUPOPHONIC WORKSHOP, TRILLIAN, and VOICE? (Oh I’m
playing VOICE aren’t I? Want me to do those nine cues out-of-sequence

NOTE TO FROUP: If mice are hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings,
why does mine seem to be intermittently incompatible with my four-way

I'm not sure what you mean by out of sequence? The continuity announcer
and grams was already done. At least, in my reality. I cannot speak for
other realities, naturally :)

Regardless, if they all show up at the end then we'll do a mix-down
before broadcast. Having multiple versions of the same may in fact help
give it a 'spacey' kind of feel. Rumour around the office is that this
was the sort of thing the author originally wanted anyway :)

The production team would like to note that in the interest of all
possible realism, genuine hyper-real-O-matic timetravel simulation
rotors have been installed to simulate all pseudo-temporal-discontinuum
events.

However, it appears that these rotors are experiencing hiccups, causing
our travelers from the future to not have traveled far enough into the
past, and future events to appear earlier than they should.
Alternatively, since this is anything but the first time travel event
our cast have experienced, we cannot at this time reliably say when the
hiccups first occurred, when they might settle down again, or indeed who
will be providing the glass of water that might be drunk upside down in
order to alleviate this issue.

However, we trust that you are enjoying the show, and should the need
arise, the blue room outside has refreshments and lemon soaked paper
nakins available between lines. Somewhere.

(Psst: Stevie - not yet!)

Cool! Really cool, Zaphod. Actually pretending to be the admiral!

Just curious, did Zaphod actually say 'dumb space cookie'?

That seems odd, and gives me an idea for a game; "Did he say it" and
it's companion pastime "Who said it".

[ the producers would like to apologize to the audience for the
continuing delay to this production. We are currently awaiting the
next chronological line from one Arthur Dent, or an appropriate
representative of his person. Meanwhile we thank you for your
patience. You may (or may not) find coffee and biscuits nearby.
Perhaps in a cupboard of some sort.

Alternatively, if you find Arthur whilst searching, please send him
this way. Possibly via http://wiki.thorx.net/wiki/FitTheSixth

Thank you ]
