The 704-Page Condensed Version Of Vincent Bugliosi's "Reclaiming History" Due To Be Published In Paperback On May 29, 2008

DAYS IN NOVEMBER: THE ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY", an
abridged, paperback version of Vincent Bugliosi's 2007 mega-tome
"RECLAIMING HISTORY".
"Four Days In November", at 704 pages, will be one-fourth the size of
"Reclaiming History", which weighs in at 2,824 total pages (including
the 1,128 pages that are presented on a CD-ROM computer disc).
The "Four Days" softcover release of Mr. Bugliosi's first-rate
examination of the JFK assassination will probably garner a larger
audience from the book-buying public than did its full-length hardback
predecessor, due to the very reasonable retail list price that will be
attached to the paperback version -- only $17.95 (MSRP).
And with the standard discount of about 25% to 30%, which can usually
be obtained at various stores around the Internet, the take-home price
for Bugliosi's paperback edition will be just $12-$13 at many
bookselling locations.
By contrast, the unabridged hardcover edition, "Reclaiming History",
retails for the much-heftier price tag of $49.95.

It can't be just a reprint of Chapter 1 of "Reclaiming
History" (which, indeed, goes by that exact same "Four Days In
November" title), because that chapter in "RH" is only 317 pages long,
in total...and the "Four Days" book will, per Amazon's data, be 704
pages.
So, I'm guessing it will be an abridged version of the whole 40-
chapter "RH" book.
What I find quite odd, though, is that VB has completely changed the
main title of the book for its softcover release (although the
subtitle is identical).
I'm not in the book-publishing industry, but isn't that a bit odd to
change the titles around from one "edition" of the same material to
the next? I'm not sure I've ever run across a similar example
(although there probably are some among the millions of books that
exist in the world).
My guess, though, is that VB possibly didn't want his full-length
"Magnum Opus" (as he calls it)--"RH"--to be confused in any slight way
with the truncated/abridged paperback version that follows it a year
later. Therefore, he's giving the second edition a new title, but
keeping the same subtitle.
That's just a surmise. I really have no idea why the title's been
changed.

Yes, I thought that a tad odd too. Although sometimes that site runs a
beat or two behind when it comes to updates. So, it will probably be
mentioned at some point.
Then, too, even the publisher's website--Norton--doesn't list the
"Four Days" book as yet either. I've only seen it listed at
Amazon.com, to date.
I'm also wondering if Vince B. knows that there is another JFK book on
the market that has that exact same title ("Four Days In November")?
The "Four Days" book linked below (top link) came out in 2003, and
features many of the original New York Times articles about the
assassination.
And, of course, there's also my favorite movie ever made about
November 22, 1963, also entitled "Four Days In November", which is a
visual chronicle of events surrounding JFK's death that has no rival
(on film, that is). VB's book, "RH", of course, goes into much more
detail than any movie or documentary ever possibly could. Staggeringly
so, in fact. ;) .....

Yes, indeed, Todd. Good points there. I'd forgotten about the
extensive CD Endnotes. (I'm ashamed of myself! For such a blatant
oversight, I should be shot with the one bullet that remained in
Oswald's Carcano on November 22.) ;)
And having just now been curious enough to wonder how many "Endnote"
pages exist on the CD for the first chapter of "RH", I looked it up
and discovered that there are 101 pages of "Four Days" endnotes.
And there's also the extensive Source Notes/Citations that will have
to be attached to the matierial too. And in "RH", the "Four Days"
chapter has an incredible number of those (1,557 to be exact, which is
second only to VB's 1,627 source citations that can be found in the
"Lee Harvey Oswald" chapter of "RH").
The 1,557 "Four Days" citations take up 38 whole pages on the CD too.
So .... 317 + 101 + 38 = 456 total pages for the first chapter ("Four
Days In November") alone. Plus, of course, the Index pages that would
apply to just that chapter, too. (Sorry, but I'm not going to the
trouble to calculate that "Index" data.) ;)

A "FOUR DAYS IN NOVEMBER" BOOK UPDATE & CLARIFICATION.......
I've received word from Vincent Bugliosi's personal secretary
(Rosemary Newton) that the "Four Days In November" paperback book, due
out in May 2008, will only be a reprinting of Chapter 1 from
"Reclaiming History" (possibly also including the 101 pages of Chapter-
One Endnotes that appear on the CD-ROM for "RH" too; but I'm not
positive about that information).
