Wasbit's Freeware Lists (160+)

I've been updating my old lists of freeware. Still some more to come
Currently they are only available on Box.net.
I will probably scrap Google Docs as it is more trouble than it's worth.

Wow! This is great news, Wasbit. And I know it's a lot of work because I
tried to do a category once for you if you remember. You definitely
provide a quality resource for this group.

Would be a good alternative for the zipfile. It's free,
anonymous and does not do much tracking and does not even require
javascript(to download).
Right-click save-as on blue download icon to download.

I also had some issues downloading from box.net.

How do I download them and still keep the links active.
I can get the text files but the links are not active. I have to cut and
paste them into a web browser.

I open the text with Notepad++ and double-click on the link.
With Ultraedit (not freeware) you can select the URL and "open in
browser". Both methods open link in Firefox
I'm sure other text editors probably have something similar.

In Freeware - Key ; Keyfinders (8.16).txt

Appears to be dead (no download). It's been removed from
Sourceforge too.

The best I've seen is Jarte (http://www.jarte.com), which is liteware.
It automatically recognizes properly formatted links, doesn't even need
the "http" part, and turns them underlined blue. To go to a link, you
press the control key and left click on the link.

I settled on Jarte as a Wordpad replacement years ago.

"Went" is the right word, but the freeware version was
distributed and licensed as well, freeware. And I don't think you can
retro-fit a license, unless it benefits the end user.
I downloaded it from:
download.cnet.com/SIW-Portable/3000-2094_4-75449686.html
The SHA 1 brought up lot of false positives. Since the paid
versions uses exactly the same algorithms, and are NOT flagged as
malware, I'd say something passed hands.
But then I'm paranoid, according to the one letter troll.

Shadow formulated on Sunday :
For what it's worth, it can still be obtained from Softpedia here:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/Portable-SIW-Free.shtml

When attempting to open the downloaded file, get a message that it can
only be installed on a usb smart drive, so I used 7Zip to extract the
contents and located the application files in the resulting "host"
folder, it now can be run as a portable on your main drive. (old but
still functions)

Maurice, just be forewarned that Jarte's UI takes a little getting used

Notepad and Wordpad. I use it at least twice a day.

Yeah, I've still got older (freeware) versions running on this computer
as well as my Dell (W7) machine. Both computers are old enough that SIW
still does a fine job with each.

Two versions on that page, siw.exe and siw-u3.exe. The first
is packed with PEcompact ver.2.78a and can't be extracted(cough - not
with 7-Zip). The second can be extracted, but both are from 2010. The
one from CNet is 2011, and the last "freeware" version.
I'm assuming you extracted the "host" folder containing
SIWPortable.exe (also packed) from siw-u3.exe then ran it.
Curious, did you "RegShot/ZSoft/SoftOrganizer it ? Is it
really portable ?
TIA

Shadow was thinking very hard :
Neither on your question. I just happened to download the wrapped
version. But I remembered the green icon after the extraction and that
it never required any installation previously. so I just ran the exe
file. They'are both the same 2010 version.

Have a look at the list of optional plugins. You might find
some useful.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/npp-plugins/files/

or use the builtin plugin manager, if you don't mind it
phoning home...

PS Full list here, some are not very stable. Always choose the Unicode
version if available.
