Hi,

After some reading I decided to installed ALT-F-1.0 on my DNS-320L A2. I used the page from the original DNS_320L page. Looks like installation was successful and the NAS rebooted. I got three blue light blinking, power, Disk1 and Disk2. After sometime power LED stop lighting but Disk1 and Disk LED got steady blue light. I think it was the normal behavior during boot. I got two disks installed.

Unfortunately, looks like my NAS didn't get any IP address. I used the cable and port which is working for my other Laptop. I tried the instructions from "Finding the box IP" topic but failed. I even tried pinging every IP address suggested but no luck.

From time to time I am seeing a purple light blinking on top of the blue LEDs.

I was looking for some resources but failed to found something that would help.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

A link would be helpful, unfortunately this is a FAQ.

Have you tried a poweroff using the power button? Keep pressing it until power led starts flashing. The box should power down after some short disk activity. Wait a minute and power it up again. It will ask and IP from your router DHCP server. It can be the same one that you use to use or probably another, the only way is to consult your router or to perform a network scan to find live devices. I use to use "fing" from an android wifi-connected phone.

That's the disk going to sleep, a short flash-on every three seconds.
So Alt-F is alive and working; it should also react to the USB button press or USB pen plugging. Read the "about leds and buttons" wiki

Yes, I have tried to power off the NAS by holding the power button before. I tried it again and manage to boot up the NAS. Thin time the power LED stops blinking but stays on. Disks LED is ON as well. I can also see the the LAN port has blinking lights. I have tried fing, unfortunately, I can not see any connected device that might be the DLINK NAS. My router page doesn't show anything as well.

I have tried plugging a flash drive and the power LED and USB light started blinking. after sometime the USB light got steady lit and the power LED turned off.

You are right, the NAS is reacting and looks like Alf-F is running. But I still couldn't get an IP.
Right now, I am observing the NAS as the power LED is still lit.

Alt-F is running fine.
You have a network problem, try using another network cable. Yes, they get faulty suddenly as lamp bulbs do.

If you hadn't come directly from the D-Link fw, I would advise you doing the long (>20 sec) recessed reset button press. This clears all flash-memory settings (no disks involved) and does a reboot.

The last chance is to do a "direct cable" connection (no switch or router in the middle) from the box to another PC with a static IP of 192.168.1.100. On power up the box will try to use DHCP first, and as a last resort it will use 192.168.1.254 (or 253,252,,,) as its IP; you can then use the "direct network cable"  PC to access it.

I'm assuming that your router has a DHCP server active, does it? Your other network devices are not using a link-local (169.254.x.x) address, are they? Alt-F does not supports it.

I have no other clues for you, but would like to know the outcome.

Thanks again for you response.

Yeah I have been thinking of resetting the NAS but always forgot because that is the last thing I want to try. The reason is my NAS has this sickness where it won't boot up if is above a certain temperature. I read from another thread about that. So I have to let it sit for a while with air conditioner on. Yes it works that way. I also thought that ALT-F would fix that temp issue but looks like it is not.

Anyway, I already reset the NAS. Will have to wait until it can boot.

To your other suggestions:
1. Already tried direct PC connect not working as well. I usually do that with the old DLINK firmware when managing the files.
2. How do I set static IP from direct PC connect? or will it be automatically assigned?
3. LAN devices has 192.168.1.x IP addresses
4. Yes, DHCP is ON it the routher.
5. I ping 192.168.1.230 up to 192.168.1.254. no luck there.

Again, thank you very much. I hope reset will fix this issue.

I manage to get it working using direct PC connection after reset.

Now I need to set it up. I still couldn't access the disks as I am being ask for user name and password.

New journey begins... :)

Thanks again!
