On Saturday, September 21st, Council Member Steve Le presented a Proclamation to the Vietnamese American Medical Association of Greater Houston (VAMA-GH) at their 2019 Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy Convention. VAMA-GH, established in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is the representative organization for Vietnamese physicians of every specialty in the Greater Houston area. The VAMA-GH mission is to promote health among the Vietnamese population in Houston and surrounding counties. They offer continuing medical education classes for their members, as well as scholarships for health care bound college students. At their annual health fair, they provide free medical care, such as blood pressure screening, hepatitis B and C screening, flu vaccines, and health care consultations. Therefore, Mayor Turner has proclaimed September 21, 2019 as Vietnamese American Medical Association Day in Houston, Texas.
