Subject: Health & Wellness Fair

Hi Barbara,

I hope this email finds you well.

The Office of State Represenatative Hubert Vo has partnered with the Vietnamese American Pharmacists Association to bring the 2017 Health & Wellness Fair to the Alief Community on Saturday, October 7, 2017.

Representative Vo would like to extend an invitation to the Alief Super Neighborhood Council to participate by promoting the event through the ASNC's resources. Booths will also be available. If you or anyone you know are intereseted in hosting one, let me know. If there is any other way you wish to participate, please feel free to offer any suggestions. We would love to have your participation and invite as many Alief community members as possible.

Please find details in the event flyer below. I have also attached a copy in this email for your reference.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully,

Edith Rodriguez
District Community Liaison
Office of State Representative Hubert Vo
Texas State House District 149

Edith:

Representative Vo is requesting that the ASNC use their resources to promote the health fair he is co-sponsoring.  This is a great event for the Alief neighborhood and I commend both sponsors.  As a member of the ASNC, in the over four years I have been attending meetings, Representative Vo, to my knowledge has never attended a meeting, other than a candidate forum, so I find it rather interesting that he is now asking for our support.

More importantly, Representative Vo has caused severe racial and ethnic tensions in the Alief neighborhood because of the foreign language street signs he was instrumental in having installed along Bellaire and Beechnut.  Many of his constituents have been fighting for over 18 months to have those signs changed, and yet he has refused to meet with us.

Perhaps if he would address that problem in person by attending one of our meetings, I would be more receptive
to supporting the health fair. If something is not done regarding the signs, his legacy as a State Representative could be as the person who created racial and ethic tension in Alief that did not exist before he was elected.

Regards

Doug Smith
ASNC Member
