A Message From Representative Vo

From my family to yours, I hope the start of this wonderful New Year has been a happy and prosperous one for you all. The 86th Legislative Session is upon us and I am excited to be back in Austin proudly representing my constituents in House District 149.

Texas faces many challenges this session from school finance to property tax reform to ensuring that our state's economy remains strong. While I work with my colleagues on these important issues, I'd like to remind you to use my office as a resource throughout the year. Please feel free to contact us if you have any ideas on legislation, want to voice your opinion, have questions, need help with a state agency, would like to request a state certificate or would like to visit the Texas Capitol. Thank you for your support this session as I work diligently to ensure my constituents get the attention they deserve.
Legislative Update

In the past few weeks, I have continued working hard to create legislation that benefits all Texans. I am proud to announce two more pieces of legislation I have filed that are aimed at bolstering voter protection rights and increasing voter participation in Texas:

HB 579: This bill would expand the current voting law to allow employees to leave work for the purpose of voting during the early voting period.

HB 694: This bill would allow for more forms of acceptable voter identification and make it easier for voters to cast their ballots.

Expectations for the 86th Legislature

The 2019 Texas legislative session is expected to be one of the most productive in history. Priorities include:
  • School finance: The state must consider how to better equip its public schools to offer Texas' children the best quality of education.
  • Property tax reform: Although Texas does not impose a statewide property tax, the system must be revamped to lift the heavy burden of local property taxes on individuals.
Hurricane Harvey Relief: After Hurricane Harvey left over 32,000 people displaced and inflicted hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to communities, my colleagues and I are eager to find the best ways to offer additional assistance to affected Texans
