In the above picture, you see three very happy executive committee members  of the Alief Super Neighborhood Council accepting a generous $1,000 contribution from the IBC  Bank at Kirkwood and Beechnut.

Pictured are Doug Smith,  ASNC Treasurer,  Shamsa Ali Momin, IBC Area Sales Manager,  Barbara Quattro, ASNC Chairman,  Hahn Nguyen, IBC Branch Manager and Noreen Smith,  ASNC Vice Chairman.

This is great evidence of a local business supporting the work of the Alief Super Neighborhood Council and  as Treasurer,  I would like to thank IBC Bank on behalf of the entire Council.     By: Doug Smith

Good afternoon Noreen,

I am very excited to share this new website: www.elderlyselect.org and its mission is to create a more infomred public through information and advocacy of quality housing and lifestyles for our senior citizens'

The idea of a website for anyone interested in finding quality, affordable help for aging loved ones has been on my mind for a few years now. As a consultant dietitian for long term healthcare facilities, hospitals and the Meals on Wheels program for more than 25 years, I have observed a variety of people throughout the various lifestyle stages. In 2002, I co-founded a nonprofit clinic dedicated to serving under and uninsured people in southwest Houston. A few facts that have permeated my career working with all kinds of people are that everybody will face a health crisis in their lives; everybody wants the best care for their loved ones; and quality of care and financial considerations are paramount when choosing between options.

My conversations with colleagues and friends attempting to help parents or elderly relatives requiring care reveals that they have encountered frustration when searching for useful information to aid in the decision-making process.

For the past 2 years, my family has been helping a frail, elderly couple without children or loved ones living nearby. Recently, we have been able to secure almost 12 hours of daily care for this couple, so that they may continue to live in their own home. My brother and sister-in-law are in their 80’s and have been living independently - until recently when their health deteriorated and during the same time they both needed surgery and rehabilitation. I learned first hand what stumbling blocks are out there when trying to find quality, affordable help for aged loved ones. Both of these “close to home” situations made me focus more intently on getting this website up and running!

ElderlySelect.org springs from my passion for advocacy of maintaining a quality lifestyle as we age. I reflected deeply on what was frustrating with finding eldercare housing and wanted to present the myriad of options in an unbiased, objective, fact-based manner. And what more powerful tool is there today than the Internet! ElderlySelect.org strives to present information that doesn’t become outdated and evolves with regularity.

Please feel free to share this email with your contact lists and thank you for visiting www.elderlyselect.org and let us know what you think!

This website is a project in progress and more data will be added when it is available.
