In my opinion, this letter, complete with all the misspellings and typos, is a classic example of our City representative passing the buck.  Public Works has already told us that they would remove the signs if our council member asked that it be done.

The signs are not only causing racial tensions in Alief, but they are also a matter of public safety.  We deserve better.

This reminds me of the previous letter by the CM Le in support for the bond referendum. Never mind the CM postponed the vote to allow for more public input, then MISSED THE VOTE!

I believe fomenting racial tension is the mo of the Trumpistas anyway....("there are very fine people on both sides!")

Soren:

Thank you for responding to my request regarding CM Le's position on the controversial Alief street signs that have caused so much racial and ethnic tension in our neighborhood.

CM Le's letter provides a good history of the signs and something that stood out to me, was the fact that nothing that has happened, has included input from the residents/constituents that have been most affected by the signs.

Richard Nguyen, Mayor Parker and the IMD were the originators of the signs with no public input.  Then CM Le says is his letter, that he asked the IMD to review the signs and make changes, which they did, again with no constituent/resident input.

He also says that he is looking forward to a pragmatic compromise on both sides, and so far, the IMD has ignored the residents compromise, which I have provided to you, for signs that are similar to other locations in Houston such as the Mahatma district.

According to the Houston Public Works Department, if CM Le requests to have the signs removed, they will do so. We are not asking to have the signs completely removed, just that signs we suggested as a compromise replace the existing signs.  Can we ask for his support for this option, so that his constituents can feel like their voice has been heard for the first time on this issue?

Regards

Doug Smith
