I got the following question this morning and I thought it would be good to have this information available in the group.

"I really did learn a lot this past weekend however tonight when I set everything up I was mocking Race Morning with one computer entering Race Day Registrations. When I tried to transfer the file to the thumb drive and the to the main timing computer I just could get the information to the timing computer correctly. I know I doing something simple wrong so if you could please give me a quick step by step process of correctly getting Race Day runners from computer to the Main Timing computer that would be great."

First let's make sure that the database is sitting on the desktop on both computers and that the software is pointing to that file on the desktop. Go to "Options" and view the "Current Database Location" and if it shows something like "C:\ProgramData\Cross Country Productions\Agee Race Timing\RaceTiming.sdf" then you'll want to navigate to that database (*ProgramData is a hidden folder, so you'll have to type it into the address bar at the top) and copy the database in there and paste it onto your desktop. Now click on the Browse button in the Options screen to select that file as the new database path to use.

1. On the registration computer (manual timing laptop) you'll enter all race-day registrations of course, and after the last person has registered you'll stick a memory stick into that laptop and Copy the database on the desktop and Paste it on the jump drive.

2. Now go to your main computer (RFID timing laptop) and plug in the memory stick. Open it up and Copy the file on the memory stick and Paste it on the desktop of the RFID computer (you'll overwrite the old file that is there).

3. If you already had the software open when you replaced the database you may have to click on "Open Race" and select "Refresh Races" to tell the software to reload everything.

TIP: If you forget to bring a jump drive, use the SD card in your camera if you brought a camera.
TIP: Practice using the Keyboard combination of Windows+E and Windows+D. This will  to quickly open windows explorer or quickly bring your to your desktop, which will make navigating a lot faster.
TIP: Prior to race day you may want to delete any databases that are on your jump drive, this way there is no risk of accidentally overwriting the database that has all of the race-day registrations on it.

On the Options screen what should we put in the "Backup Database Location"?

Before I got it pointing to the desktop it said C:\ProgramData\Cross Country Productions\Agee Race Timing\RaceTiming.sdf

the database is now sitting on the desktop and the software is pointing to that file on the desktop per Brians instructions

C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\RaceTiming.sdf

The "Backup" database location can be anything you wish.  I point to a SD memory card in the card slot on the laptop for back up purposes.  I think if you hit F7 during timing it saves to the back up location.  I push a backup copy there every now and then during the race.  This is also how you would copy to a thumb drive if you want to transfer to the results kiosk computer set up some place else.
