The ADF EMG in collaboration with ODTUG (The Oracle Development Tools Users Group) are happy to announce that we will once again be presenting a Sunday user forum session at Oracle OpenWorld on September 22nd. 

We have a full set of 6 presentations scheduled.  Come join us for a full day of ADF education and hob-nobbing with fellow EMG members, Oracle Aces, and anyone who is interested in ADF.

Here are all the fabulous details...

Place:  Oracle OpenWorld 2013, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA

Time:  Sunday, September 22nd, 2013, 8am to 5pm

Agenda:

• Session 1 - 8:00am to 9:00am - John King - Oracle ADF Task Flows Beyond the 10-Minute Demo
  
• Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) is an excellent tool for creating robust applications. Part of its strength is the built-in model-view-controller (MVC) design inherited from JavaServer Faces (JSF). With a series of XML files (of course), the flow of Oracle ADF Faces applications (Oracle ADF Faces is a feature of Oracle ADF) can be managed by the controller properly. The task flow process seems a little unwieldy to experienced UI developers, but the advantages of “not breaking” the controller are worth it. In this session, you will see how Oracle ADF’s task flow can be used to quickly and easily manage the flow of an application.

• Session 2 - 9:15am to 10:15am - Floyd Teter & Lonneke Dikmans - Oracle on Your Browser or Phone: Design Patterns for Web and Mobile Oracle ADF Applications
  
• For those who are building Oracle software for browsers or mobile phones, Oracle provides a rich set of Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) design patterns that provide guidance on industry standards for creating rich, usable applications. Come to this session to hear two leading Oracle experts discuss how to make use of these patterns to ensure that you build applications that not only are useful for your users but also make them productive and satisfied.

• Session 3 - 10:30am to 11:30am - Stephen Johnson, Frank Houweling, Eugene Fedorenko - ADF Performance Tuning War Stories
  
• Performance tuning of Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) applications, and their associated application servers and databases, is a complex and ongoing process. There is a plethora of documentation and other material on the subject, but hearing how performance issues have been handled in a real-world environment can provide valuable insight. So come hear some war stories about the performance issues other Oracle ADF developers have encountered and conquered, the problems that arose, the tools used to track down and analyze the causes, the solutions implemented, and the results. This panel session includes some short presentations, followed by questions and answers and a group discussion.

• Session 4 - 11:45am to 12:45pm - Brian Huff - Top 10 Web App Vulnerabilities, and Securing Them with ADF
  
• Cross-site scripting, SQL injection, and request forgery are just some of the major vulnerabilities every Web application developer needs to know about. Attend this session to learn about the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top 10 security vulnerabilities and how to avoid them by using Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) and other Oracle technologies.

• Lunch Break - 12:45pm to 2:15pm

• Session 5 - 2:15pm to 3:15pm - Paco van der Linden & Wilfred van der Deijl - Worst Practices When Developing an ADF Application
  
• This session’s speakers bring more than 20 years’ combined Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) experience to this session. They have seen many different Oracle ADF projects in their careers and have made or seen many mistakes. You’ll learn about some of the worst, but surprisingly common, mistakes so you don’t have to make them on your projects. Understanding why these practices are wrong also gives you a better understanding of the framework that is key to making the right decisions about how to use the vast array of options available in Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle ADF.

• Session 6 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm - John Sims - WebCenter & ADF - Responsive and Adaptive Design for Desktop, Mobile & Tablet
  
• Responsive Web design is an approach that suggests that design and development should respond to the user’s behavior and environment in terms of screen size, platform, and orientation. Adaptive Web design is about creating interfaces that adapt to the user’s capabilities and device. In this session, learn how to take the next step with your Oracle WebCenter Portal and Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) applications and update the layout, skins, styles, and portlets to make them truly responsive and adaptive.

So once again I hope ADF EMG community members can see that you've a bonus day of ADF content at OOW thanks to our volunteers & great speakers.  My special thanks goes out to Stephen for taking up the challenge in organizing this for 2013, it's great to have "Mr ADF Podcast" now a leading member of our specialized group, and volunteering his time for the benefit of everyone.

For everyone you should also know we are in the process of organizing another social night on Saturday 21st, the night before OOW and the ADF EMG user group Sunday.  You might want to book your flights and accommodation accordingly.  "Watch this space" for an announcement as they say.

Congrats that you managed to organize the ADF EMG Sunday again. 

I've very much enjoyed the previous ones and I'm looking forward to this one.

See you all on OOW, hopefully at a Saturday social night. Enjoyed that one too, last year.
