FWIW those with a USB SignalLink there is a mod where you add a 470 ohm resistor (the mod is mentioned in the addendum about AB8VJ, Matt) to clean up noise on the power from the USB connection to the computer.  Matt mentions removing the resistor and then doing a "tombstone" (which simply means soldering an SMD resistor on its end).  I did not try to do a tombstone - I simply used a leaded 470 ohm resistor with some heat shrink tubing.

Other changes are recommended but this was the one that made the most difference cleaning up the signal and is very simple to do.  I did not want to get into the other changes but I did make just this change on all of my SignalLinks.

It may not be necessary (it depends on how noisy your USB ports are) but I did it just on general principle.  I suspect it helps decode the weak ones...
