We're recruiting top PhD students working at the intersection of Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics to join our group at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

Example research topics include:
  • syntactic and semantic parsing of text or speech, especially models which can be integrated with speech recognition or information extraction
  • generalisations of topic models to novel kinds of data (e.g., financial data), or which are capable of learning sequential or hierarchical structure
  • computational models of language acquisition, especially those that rely on non-parametric Bayesian methods
  • machine learning and computational neurolinguistics, which applies computational linguistics and machine learning to predict brain responses during language comprehension
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate the following skills:
  • strong mathematical background in multivariate calculus and linear algebra
  • native or near-native proficiency in English
  • good programming skills

Candidates should apply for an International Post-graduate Research Scholarship from Macquarie University; applications close on the 30th August 2013.
