Welcome to the Action Committee for Justice and Transparency at GMHC

Our Campaign--

We are a dedicated group of GMHC clients, activist, and community leaders whose issues of justice, fairness and transparency at GMHC are of primary concern.

Over the past several years, there has been much controversy and debate surrounding GMHC decision to move to its current location at 450 W.33rd Street-NYC and the many  challenges now confronting the agency as a result of that decision.  The issue of a seperate entrance  being used
by GMHC clients/members is an ongoing concern and considered by many as discriminatory and unacceptable. In June, ten members of our committee met with attorney Norman Siegel to discuss the separate entrance matter.  Also, in July a direct action calling attention to this discriminatory practice
was recently placed on hold at the request of the chair of the Consumer Advisory Board. In September, at a meeting of the CAB,  the Chair of the GMHC Board,  Mickey Rolfe indicated that he would raise the issue of the separate entrance with the building's owners.

CAB Representation on GMHC Board--For the past several years, all attempts by the Client representative Mr. Manny Rivera to persuade the Board to amend its By-Laws, allowing for CAB representation, has felt on deaf ears.  We, as dedicated GMHC Clients, with the support of the community at large,
stand by the rule of law and human rights protections, and are calling on members of the GMHC Board and its Interim Chief Executive Officer to show leadership and open-mindedness  in crafting a new direction, a new direction that will be more inclusive of clients concerns and input on issues of policy at the agency.

We strongly believe that GMHC clients are the true stakeholders and are germain to the process.  We invite you to engage in the current conversation of selecting the next CEO, and to assure that our views and recommendations are considered in the crafting
of a "New Direction" for the agency.  Please take note of a recent report issued by the Sylvia Rivera Law Project entitled: “The Bottom Up:  Strategies and Practices for Membership-Based Organization.”

Send all email to the Chair of the GMHC Board and the Intrim CEO to support the issues of transparency and more inclusion for GMHC Clients.
