Hi,

My Signalink USB came with an unterminated UTP cable with RJ45 connector.

Does anyone know where I can find a 10 pin Mini DIN connector that would fit into data port at the back of the Yaesu FTM-400XDR radio.  It is not the 8 pin you find on other Yaesu radios.

The 10 pin Mini DIN connector is not available at my usual haunts, Amazon, DigiKey, Sayal and A1 Electronic Parts,

An Signalink (SLCAB6PM)/Yaesu (CT-164) solution would be around $100 CAD since CT-164 is not available on RadioWorld website.

Okay, you mean purchase a CT-167 cable, https://www.radioworld.ca/ya-ct167 from RadioWorld?

So now I need to figure out how to connect everything together. I need a little help.   Let me know if this is correct.

According to the Signalink site, the RJ45 pinouts are reversed.

I am also guessing that in general I would just connect pins 1-8 on the RJ45 to pins 1-8 on the CT-167 with solder?  Signalink site says I need a CT-164 to convert 6 pins to 10 pins mini DIN.  Does this mean I only need to worry about connecting pins 1-6.  Pins 7-10 can be left unconnected?

Does this sound correct?

John

Notes
For special signals requiring un-filtered "discriminator" audio, you will need to move the "SPKR" jumper to pin #4 (9600 baud output).  Note that some newer radios do NOT provide this output, so this may not apply to your radio.

**FT-450 - Some users have reported that this radio has a very sensitive Data Port, making power adjustments with the SignaLink USB's TX knob somewhat touchy.  If this is the case with your radio, then please click here for a simple solution to this problem.

**FT-950 - Some users of this radio have reported that the Notch Filter is turned on after a hard reset.  If you see a "hole" in your waterfall display, then please make sure that your Notch Filter is turned OFF.

**The 6-pin mini-DIN Data Port on the FT-840 and FT-847 supports FM and LSB only making it incompatible with most digital modes.  On the FT-847, this jack also appears to function only on the VHF/UHF bands.  Unless you are running digital modes that use LSB or FM you will need to connect the SignaLink to the Mic jack, or in the case of the FT-847, the Data I/O jack (see below).

**The FTM-350 requires Yaesu's CT-141 adapter to convert from it's 8-pin mini-DIN connector to a standard 6-pin mini-DIN.  This adapter should be available from any authorized Yaesu dealer.

##The FTM-100DR and FTM-400 requires Yaesu's CT-164 adapter to convert from it's 10-pin mini-DIN connector to a standard 6-pin mini-DIN.  This adapter should be available from any authorized Yaesu dealer.

Hi Rob,

I found that site.  This is the pinout for my FTM-400XDR.  It also states I need two Yaesu cables.  One cable (SLUSB6PM) is available at RadioWorld and the other (CT-164) I need to have shipped from DX Engineering.  Total cost would be about $100. That is about what I paid for the Signalink.  There is no RJ54 to 10-pin Mini DIN cable.  Way too expensive.

image.png

I see that some of the "Connector" are marked as N/C for other radios.  So I am going to assume that I need to connect all 6 pins on the Signalink RJ45 connector (Straight Through) to the first 6 pins on the Yaesu CT-167. The Yaesu CT-167 is $35 at RadioWorld. Ouch. 😭💰

I am thinking of first using "Modular Plug 8P8C TO 8P Terminal Block", available from Sayal to hook it up.  That way I can easily make changes.  Once I know everything works I can solder it to the unterminated RJ45 cable that came with the Signalink I got.

image.png

Another option is to purchase a 10 Pin Audio and Video DIN Cable cable at Amazon.ca and cut it off the connector.  I am not sure about paying $16 just to see if the connector fits.  Any DIN connector above 8-pins is very difficult to locate.

Thanks for your help.  I now have two solutions.

Thank you everyone for yoursuggestions.

It is virtually impossible to find the connector. The Chinese online sites says their delivery date is in December. Given the COVID delays it can be next year before I see it.   I found one site in the US but they are out of stock

At this point I will have to cry once and buy once. 😢😭😔 I will pick up a CT-167 cable for $35 from Radioworld so I can get the connector. My luck it is not in stock. A 10 pin mini DIN is an odd connector. I can find a lot of 8 or less pins versions.

Amazon has a cable with a 10 pin connector on one end at $16. It is for video.  I do not knowing the jacket of the connector and pin distancing are the same.

I will keep an eye out for the connector and stock a few

Yaesu's 10 pin mini din is not standard.  You could modify a standard one to fit by cutting the metal with a dremel (watch your fingers).

image.jpeg

That said it looks like it may be the same connector used for the sega saturn video connection, so cheap connectors may be available from console repair groups.
