Hi All,

I need to program my DMR ID into my radio.  The person who I purchased left some programming in the radio.  He forgot to change the Radio ID, which I need to do to get on the air.  Plus, figure out DMR.

I think I may have more of a Windows problem then a radio problem now.  I am not really a windows admin person.  To complicate things more, I accidently started the Windows 10 to 11 migration.  It will happen the next time I reboot the laptop.

I have tried using both the TYT software and the RT System software to program the radio.  Neither of them seems to work.

I can install and start up TYT CPS software now.  I figured out how to change the language from Chinese to English.  I have the same port issue as with RT Systems.  CPS does not detect the USB cable from the radio when plugged in.

I have installed the RT System software.  However when I try to "Get Data from Radio",  I get the message that there are no ports.  See attached photo.  I have tried using Regedit to force the com port.  It does not work.  I followed the instructions from, https://www.rtsystemsinc.com/comport-setup.html.  The device manager shows I have COM 7 & 8 on the laptop.  Forcing it to 7, 8 or 4 makes no difference.

I read that TYT uses a plain straight through cable.  The USB chip is in the radio itself and not in the cable like the Baofeng radio, etc.  I am using the cable that came with the radio.  I even added ferrite beads on both ends the cable.  I read the USB comment from http://www.miklor.com/UV380/UV380-Drivers.html.

I am unable to find somewhere in either software to designate a COM port.

I have tried installing TYT USB drivers for DMR.  When I double click "dpinst_x86.exe", nothing happens.

I have downloaded and reinstall the RT System software several times.

I have the ICOM USB driver installed for IC-7300.  I have RT Systems software installed for IC-7100, FTM-400XDR and FT-70DR.  I have FT8 running, fldigi, etc installed and running.

Any ideas?

My problem is resolved.  I needed a USB driver that was not on the TYT website.

Yeah, thanks.  I am glad to be able to try another digital mode.

WIth the help of the person from whom I purchased the radio from I am able to get the DMR radio on the air.  He understands Windows more than I do and he had gotten the MD-UV380 to work.  The TYT is a horrible site.  All their software is either out of date or does not work.

The USB driver that he installed on his computer is now installed on my computer.  Everything now works.  I was unable to locate the necessary USB driver for this radio.

The DMR ID must be entered via the software.  Even with the programming mode enabled on the radio the DMR ID cannot be changed from the radio.  It sort of made sense as it from the commercial world.  I retrieved the programming from the radio, added my DMR ID, uploaded and got on the air.  Well sort of, I went through the pi-star.  Next I will attached it to my X50A and see if I can hit a DMR repeater.

I think Fusion is great!  It is so much easier to set up and get going on it.

Hi John,

Don VE3IXJ here.  Is your radio single band or dual band?

I have the dual band 390 which is supposed to be compatible with the dual band 380.  I have it programmed with repeaters for every county and region in Ontario.  Let me know.

Hi Don,

Thanks.

It is the dual band version without the GPS.  It is a TYT MD-UV380.  It was originally purchased from RadioWorld.

We loaded the USB driver that was located with the 390 radio software.  I could not find a USB driver that works.  The previous owner remembered where he got it and downloaded it for me.

The previous owner had my radio all programmed.  He offered to leave his programming on it and would change the DMR Radio ID.  However, he forgot to enter my DMR Radio ID.  He did remember to change the label to my name.  I think he made the change in the programming file but forgot to upload it.

Now I just need to add my customizations.

Thank you all for their help.

My DMR radio is now set up.  At least to get on the air.  I was missing the necessary M$ Windows USB driver.  Once that was installed I was able to use the programming software.

With the software working, I can now program it to meet my needs.  The radio can only hold 100,000 contacts, so I will not have everyone on the list. 😭  It was an unplanned purchase so now I will add learning how to use a DMR radio on my list of things to do.  For now, I will use the DMR ID that is tied to VA3BOF.

I believe to get on a repeater so people know I am on the air is to kerchunk the radio.

This is where I get my DMR contacts from.  http://www.dmrcontacts.com/
There are well over 200K at this point.
The file is CSV so you can actually delete what you dont want and then import what you do want into the radio.

Avoid moving things around or the file will not align with the radio display!
Just delete rows but remember to re-index!

Have fun.

Hmmm....interesting.  I think it can be done.  I am assuming you are using a Pi-Star because you do not have a DMR repeater close by and wish to use your cell phone's data.

What will you be using as your radio?  Here are the modes on Pi-Star.
image.png

You should be able to go from either a DMR or Fusion radio to access the Pi-Star and have it go out to a DMR TG/repeater.  For a Fusion radio you will need to also turn on YSF2DMR.

image.png

You will need to enable your cell phone to work as a WiFi hotspot.  This works as I have tried this in my car before.

image.png

If you have a radio like IC-7100, you should be able to do D-Star too.  See http://www.g0hwc.com/d-star-hf.html

Okay, John, are you trying to pull my leg?  This is like the student teaching to the instructor. I am not ready for a smackdown. Yet! 😋😂

If you want, you can even go tap tap.  Have a look at this site for attaching a soundmodem to get WinLink: https://davidcappello.com/2020/01/20/using-winlink-with-icom-ic-9700-and-soundmodem-tnc/

Thank you for the compliment.  Unfortunately the more I get into Amateur Radio the more I realize that I am still at the beginning of the journey.

I have a Baofeng UV-5R too.  TBUG???? What is that?
