I hope you had a chance to do the "Did you feel it" exercise last week. This week's Winlink Wednesday is about mapping. When you have received Winlink Check-ins, Weather Reports and other messages with position information Winlink can create a map for you. This exercise gets you to try out this capability.

I found a handy YouTube RATPAC discussion on this topic, and of course you can find many more YouTube how-to videos with a bit of searching.

This exercise shouldn't take you too long, although you will need to send a check-in then check back later to receive everyone else's.

Instructions are in attached PDF.

P.S. In addition to the map generation from the menu, the Globe icon under the menu bar also activates the mapping function.

For those few of us who is using Winlink PAT client, I updated the wipe.py script which I use to automatically collect station location info from WINLINK emails. Now in addition to a nicely formatted report and an optional GPX waypoint output the script can produce a KML file. I did not try it with Google Earth, but successfully imported the produced KML file to a newly created Google Map. If you decide to take a look at the script or play with it, here is the link: https://github.com/ve3nkl/wipe

Hello Chris,
My Google Earth also crashed after adding an item to the opened KML file.
