Hi All,

I cannot remember the correct fix.

When using FT-8 (JTDX) when it switches from Rx to Tx, the radio would switch from USB-D to RTTY-D.  It stays in RTTY-D.  What setting am I missing in my IC-7300.

I tried USB-D mode switch.  It would still switch the mode to RTTY-D.  I also tried updating the presets on the IC-7300.  I noticed when the switch happens, the FT8 presets are unloaded.

I think I may have figured some of it out.  As long as I am not using Omni-Rig (1.19) the switching of mode in JTDX does not change it to the radio mode to RTTY-D.  Changing the CAT interface to IC-7300 fixes that problem.  I think when I updated my JTDX it must have switched to using Omni-rig to 2.1.

I wish that was it.  Now Log4OM (2.21.1.0) does not recognize the CAT control commands. 😭

I was going to try upgrading to the latest version of Omni-Rig.  That would be 2.1.  According to the Omni-rig website, it says Log4OM software needs the older version of Omnirig (version 1).  😤  It is right because Log4OM works.

The last version 1 is Omni-Rig 1.20.  I will give that a try.  There is also a new version of Log4OM (2.20.0.0).  I will upgrade Log4OM after I try Omni-Rig 1.20.  After that I will switch back to 16-bit version or purchase a copy of the 32-bit Virtual Serial Port Emulator. Another choice is to switch the logger, Log4OM.

I get a bit of a break from work later this week.

Hi All,

Problem resolved.

I decided to look into the Omni-Rig initialization ".ini" files for the IC-7300.  They have a pair of initialization files for the IC-7300.  They have pairs of initialization file a number of other ICOM radio
  • IC-7300-DATA.ini
  • IC-7300.ini
Hmmm... I thought.  Why is one labeled "Data".  Opening the files I see:
  • IC-7300.ini
    • Same as original IC-7300, but only returns pmVfoA and pmVfoB, not pmFreq for use with CW Skimmer and Contest Loggers.
  • IC-7300-DATA.ini
    •  Same as IC-7300, but selects USB-D and LSB-D for DIG modes instead of RTTY and RTTY-R

Bingo!!

I need to load the "IC-7300-DATA.ini" in omni-rig.

Once I have changed the initialization configuration file, the issue has been corrected and I can now use FT8.

Sorry John IPS.  I participated in Field Day using phone mode.
